Australia’s greatest Vietnam victory. 108 Australians defied incredible odds at Long Tan in 1966. They were outnumbered by about 20 to 1 at the height of the historic clash in southern Vietnam. New Zealand and the U.S. provided key artillery support while the Royal Australian Air Force’s Huey helicopter dropped supplies and gave air cover. But the men on the ground endured incredible adversity as they inflicted massive casualties. 245 Viet Cong and North Vietnamese lost their lives as well as 18 members of D Company.
