Iām for hyper armor on Long Sword to be removed, idk why the fuck it needs hyper armor. They didn't need to buff the LS. We are going to nerf itās damage. While giving it 500 buffsā¦
For the people who think balance in PvE is useless, let's think about why it is. Weapons are most fun when you're using your high damaging flashy moves right?
Okay. So what if we make it so you get to use those moves more often!? Long sword is now in permanent red gauge, you get to helm slash all the time now! You never have to build up to it by countering, building up meter or anything.
What about greatsword, how bout we make it attack faster, no more pesky charge. I mean, you literally arent playing the game while charging and I just want to play the game dammit! Amd why should i have to build up to my strongest move!? TCS should be the first greatsword attack everytime!
These would be so unfun. Zero decisions would have to be made, you wouldnt need to interact with any of the kit, or really know the monsters all too well. But hey, at least you get to use your epic move all the time!
Iām kinda upset that the optimal way to play Long Sword has gone back to instantly using Spirit Helmbreakerā coming from the old Long Sword which was purely about positioning and upkeep, I personally feel that way to play is the most satisfying. The Crimson Slash combo first gave me hope but now I see itās comically outdamaged by the helmbreaker and Spirit Release Slash, and it makes the old man in my heart sad. A change I would love to see, but doubt it would ever happen, is that the helmbreaker and Spirit Release would deal much more damage if you used them when your Spirit gauge is almost empty; rewarding patience and that āupkeepā I mentioned by staying in the red spirit level for as long as possible.
Unless that happens, I suppose itās back to the Lance for meā¦

LS is a weapon I tend to stray away from, in the last several releases (when including G-rank/Master rank expansions), just because the seemingly lowered risk/reward didnāt seem as thrilling to me. Itās one of the cases where something to balance it out more would actually further attract me to the weapon.
Doesn't need nerfing, i think it played fantastic, but the hit boxes need fixing. LS has insane range in the Beta and you can land hits that are nowhere near the monster.
I counter with my switch axe: chip damage (massive damage if the monster hits hard) I counter with longsword: no damage and massive I-frames š at least make the other weapons that have harder to use counters not take any damage also because we know capcom wonāt nerf the peopleās (and theirs) favourite so buff other counters -offset counters shouldnāt take chip damage either imo
The issues I've seen Long Sword mains point out with the weapon hasn't been about the damage numbers (not implying that you did that either) is that they increased accessibility to foresight slash during the spirit combo (you can do it after any of the attacks, but in Wilds you can do it after the second swing of the 3-hit spirit attack instead of needing to wait for the attack to end), hyper armor on the spirit thrust (they were okay on the spirit release slash having no hit reaction but wouldn't mind taking full damage during it as punishment for not being smart while using it), and that you can infinitely loop stab>upswing>stab>upswing between any part of the spirit blade combo without losing your place (previously you could do 1 extra attack between the first two attacks that made it take longer to get to the roundhouse slash to level up the gauge but also allowed you to start doing the spirit slashes a bit earlier because the 2 in-between attacks would fill up the center gauge expended by the spirit attacks).
This comments section is why I don't feel comfortable playing LS online. And honestly, why I tend to prefer to hunt solo generally. It's not that I even play LS that much or that optimally, but I really enjoyed using it in base Rise, (again not the optimal way where I was all about counters.) but the constant, ceaseless whining about LS from everyone and their mother online got super old and I just didn't want to risk getting judged by someone because I dared to play the forbidden weapon. Plus, Sunbreak had the weird Harvest Moon and went even harder on the counter stuff too.
But trying it out in Wilds, yeah, it does definitely feel pretty strong. I don't think I'll be maining it, but I'm sure I'll use it from time to time. Building up gauge and then spending that gauge is still quite fun, and the added benefits only make it easier to use. As someone who prefers to play by themselves, whether or not it's "too strong" or "too good" isn't particularly an issue for me.
At 9:44 you mention that it doesn't really matter since it's a pve game and there is no pvp, which I get, but in my opinion that makes these titles even more frustrating to me? The titles for MANY of these videos talking about weapons are so click bait-y with "(insert weapon) is the STRONGEST WEAPON in the game", "new greatsword is MOST POWERFUL weapon" and even more. These videos don't need all of that and I would rather just see the information be presented well and not have everything framed like that because like YOU said: it's a pve game. There is no best weapon, and people will play whatever and however they want to. Loving the content about wilds but these titles are driving me a bit crazy
Imagine missing an SAED! Not anymore you now dont loose phials and they are on a timer. Trouble guard pointing stuff? No problem auto guard point from any animation cause we can.

people talking about speedrunning times when 98% of players wont achive those times and its more about being overtuned then hitting to hard… speedrunning times is not what makes a weapon broken. LS has 0 commitement in WIlds compared to World.
I mean overall no it doesn't really matter cause people will generally play what they want to play, but it is a weird scenario comparing how hard landing the switch axe full combo could be vs the fuck it we ball gameplay of longsword

It's good that people are enjoying LS, but I'm starting to think LS has too many options at any given moment. I used to main LS before 5th gen, because the weapon was all about positioning and consistent attacks, but in World and Rise the weapon had such a large arsenal I just couldn't enjoy it anymore. It's like going to the grocery store and seeing 20 different versions of the same product, which causes you to never think you bought the best one. Obtaining spirit gauge was a joke, and the monsters became a joke.
I've since then moved onto Switchaxe, Insect glaive, and SnS, which in my eyes have clearer skill expression, while having less options at any given moment.
Iai slash is still a pain for me to perfect parry from time to time. I hople rhat evade window will help with the timing of this.
Hollow, red gauge (and the rest of the gauges) were always on timers. It was just that the gauge filling that you get from regular attacks and spent on spirit slashes, was separate. Now, it's separate until you get to red, where it's part of the red timer.
You know what GS need? Running animation of the hammer, hyper armor on every charge attack with rage slash on tcs, no charge level only max multiplier with no penalty, bring back World tcs multiplier, something similar as wild swing, every block is strong arm stance with the multiplier boost, dodge while charge, run while charge, sheath while charge, more stun damage on shoulder, and LS swing animation. Yup that is it…
This is why im hoping for a December or January demo. So we can test any optimization or balancing they do befor full release

If you time this with a roar, speedrun hunts just got a whole lot faster.
You mentioned that the longsword speedruns was just as fast without the buffs, but doesn't longsword require much more skill than most of the other weapons?
