  1. The fact that I don't get references is cool imo, I like learning something from the show.

I watched a few episodes of Venture bros and Arrested development and thought they were cool but they weren't really popular in my country.

But I definitely saw them on tv before cable wasn't the thing anymore. I love learning that there was more to something that makes it even cooler to go back to

  2. Early 30s and don't really connect with your references – not that I dislike them, I was just interested in different franchises and media. I enjoy when people talk about the things they enjoy, so context is rarely important for me!

  3. QOTD: While I don't always fully GET the reference, it's usually told in a way that's still funny. I know it's a reference, but it's still funny. You guys don't tend to go "Ghostbusters, am I right?!"

  4. QOTD: I recognize most of the references as a 30 y.o. Your "growing up with this media" was my "this media is what the big kids think is cool". The few things I missed (e.g. Venture Bros.) I actually sought out because it sounded good from y'all.

  5. QTOD: Hi Bros. Been watching since around when you guys did Banjo Kazooie or earlier might’ve been Kaizo 1. I remember watching Banjo Kazooie as it was posted. I’m y’all’s age (37) and I’m around 70/30 of the references that you guys make. 70 in ballpark of what you’re talking about and 30 not sure probably due to a lack of having not seen some of the referenced movies/tv shows etc… I do enjoy the show though glad it came back it’s become something of a ritual for me. World peace and much love ✌️✌️ ✌️.

  6. i'm almost a decade older than you guys. i believe iget all the references (probably not though, let's be honest 😀 ) some of the stuff from your younger years I don't get immediately since i had passed that line of it being interesting for me. But as a whole I belive i get most references you guys make.

  7. Not only woud I be interested in that, as I am googling to find the episode Brett says the my man sabertooth story. But I'm sure most references aren't as easy to find.
You actually doing it is ridculous, but if some fans wanted to do it that would be great lol

  8. Can I just get an Alex reference guide, he spoke about the simiarities of religion and lore/canon in movies comics etc and I wanted to explain it to someone else. I couldnt work ou tif it was Beard Bros, Chilluminati, SSG, SWOCBC, finally got it on Not So Common, but yeah now I feel like a stalker

  9. QOTD : I'm 35 and have been watching on and off since the start of this show. I have zero clue mostly of the movies and series etc, but I really like the dynamic and your banter. And just listening to people talking about stuff they like is always satisfying IMO

  10. Testicular torsion episode has got to be the Venture Bros episode to show people first. It introduces the whole conceit of the show by introducing the idea of the guild and the mundanity of the hero/villain interactions in their world. It also introduces the idea of Monarch hating Venture to his core. Both are core themes of the whole show moving forward.

  11. Based on the stuff Brett was saying about the TV stuff he likes and Venture Brothers/Arrested Development, in regards to the show is rewarding to watch but you can also jump on anywhere, I think Brett would love What We Do In The Shadows. One of the best most consistently high quality shows I've ever seen

  12. QotD: I rarely experience the feeling of "I don't get that reference" when watching the show. I get my share of references, and then a large portion of the references I don't get, I am aware of through that weird pop culture osmosis. Like, I've seen enough references to whatever it is, in other media, so I am aware of the reference itself even though I have not directly experienced the original media.

That said, I definitely think Brett is right that he makes references that are essentially camouflaged in casual conversation. If you get it, it's for you, and if it's not for you then you don't really notice or feel like you missed something, it's just chill chat.

  13. I'm 41 and I don't understand a lot of the references they make on Beard Bros, particularly the video game and television ones. The movie references I mostly get. I have a video game blind spot after N64 and I barely played anything on Sega consoles or Playstation. I also never watched Adult Swim, Arrested Development or some of the other TV they often reference. My knowledge of a lot of the references being made on the show are because I've watched the guys for like 10 years and just remember.

  14. I do enjoy the references, even if I don't fully get it when it comes to comics or movies. Usually just seeing others get excited about a thing they like is enough for me to feel their excitement and enjoy it, and it kind of works to help me learn more about that thing.

  15. The last time I felt satisfied, in the way the gents are describing, watching a show was Star Trek. Many of the stand-alone episodes, all you need to know is who the main characters in the episode are. With in the episode, they say or show who the characters are, but if you have been watching, you will understand more. It is thought-provoking as well as attention grabbing.

  16. Honestly, sometimes the references to a movie, series, or even just one bit go on too long for me. I didn't grow up in the US and I didn't grow up watching most comedy shows that aired in the 90s, so I'm mostly vibing with you guys' enjoyment. I love when you guys are just having fun and make each other laugh. That said, things that come to mind like the 'mario where are you' bit completely miss the mark for me, and I sometimes just skip ahead a minute or two to see if you've stopped shouting into the mics. But episodes like this one, where they're talking about Venture Bros which I haven't seen but don't like the sound of based on the bros.' references, I just tune out and try to enjoy the vibe of them enjoying what they're saying instead of trying to 'agree with the humour'. Just my two cents!

  17. Even if I don't get the joke/reference, it usually isnt a problem for me. I can infer and enjoy the moment either way. I can think of one instance of the past however long-maybe a decade??- I have been watching this show where I felt lost and genuinely confused in a moment

  18. QOTD: I’d say maybe every 1 in 3 or 1 in 4 references I don’t get. Even the ones I don’t get can be funny though. Like “I’ve got bars” is one of my favorite jokes so far and I still don’t know if it was a reference or a brilliant spot of improv.

  19. I got 30 kukri. I understand less than half of Brett & Alex refs. I dont care, i have fun with other aspects.

I find it nice to hear people discuss crap idk of, i can still laugh. I dont need to get the reference to enjoy what was said.

  20. I feel like I am in the room with you guys. It makes it very relatable. Also I watch Jingle all the way every year. Now because of you it will be a family tradition. Not just my guilty pleasure!

  21. I think the idea of a searchable archive for your bits and references would be really funny, but also very impractical for whomever has to duty of organising the last decade of Super Beard Bros.
