Plagued with low ridership and mounting losses, can Mumbai Monorail be made more useful for people

It seems that Mumbai’s Monorail has lost its charm among the commuters. The compartments of Monorail are barely occupied. The monorail has a capacity to carry 2 lakh passengers every day and it barely touches a footfall of 10,000.

  2. Monorail has very low transit capacity and inefficient. Plus the pre existing routes of monorail has very less demand of passengers. Ofcourse it'll have less passengers as it can't compete with metro system let alone with local trains.

  4. Not everything is about profits
But the connections is a good point
It should’ve been designed as a connection points to other public transit
But that doesn’t mean there could be a better connections established in the future

  5. Congress completely failed nation. Congress took 11 years to build metro of 10 km between Andheri to ghatkopar. Mono design is mindless . Kick out congress to Brit it's origin nation

  6. The route of monorail is odd, it does not serve office or college goers as there is no connectivity between residential and commercial areas on this route hence it was bound to fail from day 1. MMRDA under Congress govt simply made this project to show to the public that the were doing something in the infra sector when in reality it was pointless. There is no ridership for monorail even in the peak hours.

  7. With the introduction of Mumbai metro, there can be a possibility that the monorail will start to get more passengers and that, there can be much better service offered. Only time can tell

  8. This is infact a really good project than metro but curupt politicians & beaurocrats made it disaster. This project is much more cost effective & convenient for a city like Mumbai .
