For the nether to be realistic like the mantle of the Earth, it should be mostly solid netherrack/basalt with at most small caves so that the player has to mine through (and avoid lava pockets) instead of a giant cavern.

i downloaded this recently, but i struggle to focus when in single player and got as far as starting a starter base. its super pretty, but i wish it worked like a texture pack and could be used while on servers.
I think it's okay if you just restart the run with a new seed. You spawned under the sea and your nether portal is just one step away from a lava lake! You've fallen 2x times already from the portal so, yeah I think it's just fair if you restart 🙂 I wouldn't mind at all, but that's just me 🙂
