  7. Latest GFS model run (today at noon) is predicting another hurricane with same track as Helene in the next 10-14 days. And there’s another system right behind it. Florida, climate change is real. Time to vote blue. The GOP is still hiding its head in the sand when it comes to climate change.

  8. Little wonder that there is so much damage when the US builds houses of cardboard and paper. There seems to be a lack of common sense when you build a garden shed for a house in an area known for erratic weather. Has the US forgotten how to build houses with foundations and bricks ? Obviously not !

    Regarding residential claims in the wake of Hurricane Debby, which hit the Big Bend in August, 3,503 were closed with payment, while 7,397 were closed without compensation.

    Commercial numbers are just as bleak, with 72 claims closed with payment and 194 without.

    Some insurers have been especially stingy, including Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, the state insurer of last resort. NOTUS reports it did not pay out on 77% of claims against it.

    Per OIR, 75% of Debby claims are closed across the industry for the storm that imposed nearly $131 million in insured losses in Florida.

    Too bad somebody [climate scientists] did not warn us [everyday for the last 35 years] that hurricane behaviour was going to change for the worse due to increased ocean temperatures due to global warming. It was a no brainer prediction since we have long known hurricanes get much of their energy from latent ocean heat. We also know via the Clausius-Clapeyron equation, the air can approximately hold around 7% more moisture for every 1C of temperature rise above the pre-industrial era. At our current 1.5 C increase in global temperature there is around 10% more moisture in the atmosphere than the pre-industrial era. Most of the increase in warming & moisture is recent thus making for both greater evaporation, which increases drought (over half of the lower 48 is in drought right now) and moisture in the atmosphere thus jacking the hydrological cycle that has been smashing rainfall records for the past decade, especially record rain during hurricanes. I've never believed humans would ever give up fossil fuels (never advocated either) and now it's far too late if they wanted to. It's runaway climate change and it's only begun it's reign of destruction. Homes, businesses, infrastructure & agriculture. We are fast approaching the point where CC can smash to bits what we build faster than we can repair and rebuild it.
    Denial is the most common cognitive bias. Don't feel bad because in the big picture there is no blame. Humans are just following their biological programming – same as all the earth's other creatures. I do not advocate, but I do suggest that it might be a good idea to learn how to protect you and yours from climate consequences near you. TPTB in N Carolina were warned via a climate report about potential mass rain and flooding in western N Carolina, exactly where it hit. They did not take any measures at all and thus the people and infrastructure suffered the maximum damages. Their denial and/or silence is criminal, but the plebs are the ones who voted for those politicians. The nations that are shoring up their defenses for the inevitable will suffer less and live longer. Denier nations….well look at the damages they were warned about. They will never fully recover. There's plenty of people in and around Huston who still have not recovered from Hurricane Harvey and are never going to. America is already full of American born and breed climate refugees.
