NASA Just Revealed Starship Flight 5 Launch Date! Goodbye FAA…
Let’s speed things up!
That’s likely what NASA is hoping for when it comes to Starship Flight 5. Following SpaceX, NASA has also confirmed the upcoming launch schedule.
Meanwhile, SpaceX has been granted approval to deploy Starlink to the Hurricane Milton area, once again demonstrating its vital role across multiple sectors.
And finally, we’ll discuss Rocket Lab, which has recently been awarded NASA’s Mars Sample Return contract.
Let’s dive into all of this on today’s episode of Great SpaceX.
NASA Just Revealed Starship Flight 5 Launch Date! Goodbye FAA…
It can be said that after the FAA’s tough stance, the October 13 launch schedule announced by SpaceX surprised many people.
Why are they so confident? As I hypothesized, the launch authorization this time may have come from NASA, with the FAA being left out of the process. However, it appears that the FAA remains a key agency in this situation, as they recently announced that they are reviewing the information related to the flight that SpaceX submitted in August and will allow the flight if the requirements are met.
This sudden change from the FAA is indeed puzzling. While it may not be a direct impact, it seems that NASA has had some indirect influence on the FAA during this process. This makes sense because, besides SpaceX, NASA is likely the agency most eager for Flight 5 to proceed.
At a meeting of the National Academies Aeronautics and Space Engineering Board on October 9, Lori Glaze, acting deputy associate administrator in NASA’s exploration directorate, stated that NASA was “really looking forward” to the Starship flight and expected it to occur “as early as next week.”
NASA Just Revealed Starship Flight 5 Launch Date! Goodbye FAA…
Clearly, NASA understands the importance of Starship to their Artemis project. Flight 5 will be crucial in unlocking that potential. Glaze emphasized: “There’s no doubt that the Human Landing System is the critical path for Artemis 3.”
Ultimately, SpaceX needs to master the processes of achieving orbit and landing the stages to progress further. Based on designs that successfully reach orbit and land, SpaceX can confidently develop a Starship HLS prototype, ready for testing and flight by late 2026. Alongside this, they will construct a refueling system to fuel the main ship for its targets, with the lunar mission being the primary focus for the Starship HLS.
Building such a system is challenging, but NASA is optimistic due to SpaceX’s significant strides. SpaceX has built a second tower at Starbase and another in Florida to support these efforts.
Additionally, Glaze highlighted SpaceX’s aim to launch a Super Heavy on Flight 5, something they originally planned for Flight 6. This will expedite progress on the road to Artemis.
In conclusion, Glaze stated: “We’ve all been watching SpaceX. They work a little differently from traditional industry. We’re all keeping an eye on their progress as they continue to develop.”

NASA FAA management must be removed immediately,
Draining the global swamp Mr President Trump and We The People.
I am ready
Wait, has someone finally realized that bureaucrats shouldn't be making arbitrary decisions about "rocket science". When they don't know their butts from a hole in the ground. Thank God someone at NASA spoke up. I'm actually surprised you don't see many people in important jobs willing to risk speaking up. Looks SpaceX is going to GO! Hooray!
I doubt 15 days of augmented cell service will be enough! But, we'll see, this is better than doing nothing.
I'm ready!
Boeing and government people smell of corruption, follow the money. Who in government or their families own stock of Boeing or companies Boeing is a part of
I'm ready
Let’s go!!! And @2:00 LOL
We should support Space X to move humanity forward not hold them back because of paper work or money 🐸💚
Kevin, I'm glad you're on the team. I (human) like hearing actual humans as the voice on info videos…AND, leaving little glitches in there–esp when your delivery is always fantastic–is great.
I await your videos (and I'm subscribing after I hit Send in this)
Saving lives, that's a good thing right?🐸💚
Say goodbye to the FAA? I have some commercial flight tickets to sell you. Without the FAA, the airline industry will collapse. I doubt anyone will want to fly commercially if the airlines no longer consider safety a priority, but make profit the prime priority, and "regulate" themselves.😂 Planes will start falling from the sky like bricks if airlines are not regulated for safety.
Stop saying, "Goodbye FAA." What is wrong with the people who run this channel? We might not like the FAA decisions, but that doesn't mean the FAA could or may be dissolved.
I'm ready
I'm ready.
The FAA is a criminal organization for ignoring Boeings LACK OF PROPER INSPECTION OF BOEING PLANES! It is a DEMOCRAT "puppet" agency, DA!
I'm ready F FAA
I'm ready
Oh yeah, I'm ready…
Educate yourself, A Launch requires different controlling bodies approvals depending on the organizations involved and mission parameters.
I'd bet Elon personally got on the phone with NASA. My guess is it went something along the lines of "Listen up you SOB's, I've put billions into this. DO SOMETHING!"
I'm ready; For the FAA and every other government agency to stop acting on political bias, bribes, favoritism, or any other interest outside of their mission guidelines and to do their jobs to the best of their ability in the interest of the American people. No greater threat exists to the future of this country or to the world-at-large than that of out-of-control bureaucracies.
I've BEEN Ready!! I'm glad NASA chimed in. Didn't make sense for the government to request SpaceX's assistance with space missions with one hand while doing everything possible to inhibit them with the other hand.
I'm ready. Like someone else posted JUST LAUNCH ALREADY!!!!!!!
I'm ready. It's clear that the FAA has been corrupted. Forcing SpaceX to jump through hoops they don't require any other launcher to jump through and perform tests already completed.
So we’re launching in 3 days?
FAA rly needs to change its ways, they are really outdates.
I'm ready since july! 😉
BTW: You said "launch super heavy on flight 5" but you meant "catch"? 🙂
I'm ready 🎉
2:00 ???
Am ready
So the launch is as early as Oct. 13-18. I’ll fact-check that.
I really despise and loathe Mr. Musk for his support of Trump that could doom Europe and put us in war with Russia again here in Finland/Sweden. This is also souring my positivity towards Tesla and SpaceX and all of his "Mars dreams". I feel betrayed. Is everything he is saying about Mars just some kind of a tax dodge or a scheme to make more money with Starlink and space monopoly? I don't think that I can anymore believe anything he has said about space when he is constantly spreading lies and misinformation on Twitter/X. I wish well – to his competitors. I hope they can make great rockets in the future. All of this enthusiasm for space and all, is it just for nothing? Can you share a dream that is the dream of a fraud and a conman? Musk is also destroying my space dreams and dreams for a multiplanetary future, along with his own of course, if he ever had any to begin with….
I think the landing has to be very low, to move into position and the booster going to come in too fast. They’re won’t be enough fuel left.
It looks like NASA has overruled the FAA on SpaceX's IFT5 launch. NASA should have been regulating SpaceX all along. They are no longer a "startup" or experimental space company. They are the number one provider for NASA, DOD as well as half the planet. NASA or DOD/Space Force regulate all space related activity. Why the FAA has any jurisdiction because the rocket is the air for a minute and a half is ridiculous anyway. One of the A's in the FAA is aeronautics (pertaining to air only), NASA has the A and the S pertaining to air and SPACE. Any activity that occurs mostly above the Karman line is in space. NASA also has safety protocols and the responsibility of public and personnel safety. Put the proper responsibility with the proper agency and leave it there. Space is space as in National Aeronautics and SPACE Administration. (NASA)
Rocket Labs proposal is a perfect example of innovation and competition. They having electric pumps on their rocket engines and SpaceX is making launches much cheaper by landing the boosters. Rocket Lab as well as others is trying to emulate that process. Space travel costs have dramatically dropped due to SpaceX, causing new companies to compete. Letting the new companies accomplish missions for NASA at a much better price.
I'm very curious, like many, to see if SpaceX can catch the booster and then the Starship. Even more curious to see if they can make it as routine as landing the Falcon 9 booster. Elon and SpaceX seem to have a knack at accomplishing things that most thought impossible. Let's see if they can continue to surprise and amaze.
I've changed my perception about Elon and Space X. I am thankful for them. See, for the longest time me and friends of mine, we weren't allowed to rent airplanes and fly people to different places. They required licenses, inspections, and testing. As well as trained flight hours. But, I have Microsoft Flight Sim, and a Logitech Yoke. It said I was perfectly safe. So Elon and Space X have given us all the ability to say F You FAA, we know what we are doing. Get out of our way. I mean, I've flown over 5 times in the simulator and took 1 discovery flight. What's the problem? I mean, I've never actually flown a Lear Jet or Gulfstream, but I have sim'd a G58 dual prop. And as Space X and Elon have shown, if you can fly one, you can fly any of them. Hopefully we can get people like me into the cockpits of commercial airliners soon. Thanks Guys!!
It wasn`t just the FAA that was going for delays.EPA was raising their regulatory ugly head. Why?
Politics, don`t get on a liberal democratic person`s bad side. They will sic any government agency they control after you if you might sway public opinion (including the IRS).If you need government approval for anything, nod your head, be polite and don`t mention or comment on the affairs of the day.
I'M READY!!!!
Goodbye FAA? Really? Did you know that the FAA is what keeps other aircraft from crashing into you when you travel on an airline? 🙄
Musk's way of developing rockets is to blow things up, so yeah, the FAA is going to be cautious about it. Get used to it.
I'm ready!
