The most expensive game Alpha of all time with nearly half a billion in funding so far. What was it like? I dove in headfirst and learned a lot about the state of Star Citizen in 2022 while making this review. Lets talk about it

Good Luck out there!
Tip you really don't need a backpack. When you got inside your ship you could have transferred the local storage loot to ship storage. Then later go somewhere that has sellers (example: gun shop for guns) and sell it. Also you can all ways go back to those areas and get loot you have in local storage.
I canβt wait for the documentary in 2030 about this scam.
Is Architectural Times a real thing?
As someone who loudly criticized this game and it's fundraising, I have to admit that after trying the game out, I was pleasantly surprised. Not only was it playable, but Star Citizen is actually quite fun to play.
Loved watching a new player fly from a planet to it's moon and say they flew across the solar system. I remember that feeling it was so cool.
The bedsheet deformation thing was a line out of context of a monthly report of over 5k lines of text… SC new are surrounded by fake news.
Starfield and Star Citizen have nothing in common. Just starfield is free marketing for the space games, like star citezen.
SC didnt remove the roadmap LOOOOOL they expanded it
Welcome citizen! AI will come. Sever meshing 1st, then most other things. Think of NPCs as placeholders atm.
Was amazing watching you discover things! A bit frustrating to watch like hit "i" when on your ship to put stuff in its local inventory so you can get it off your person to loot more! Holding "r" puts your multitool away or anything you are holding. Hold "f" and right click to open quick action menu to map taking off or on helmet without inventory. Loved the content. Try Area 18 to get interactive AI missions (criminal) from femal AI Tecia "Twitch" Pacheco. Amazing city to explore but you really need to use signs!
Great video you made here dude π Really liked it and interesting to see how new people look at SC in it's current state of development. Keep it up π
Just to provide some info about the game. Us the original backers are here to support CIG in making the space game of our dreams and not something crappy that imo has been pushed out in the last 20 years. That is the dream of Chris Roberts also but no publisher would give him the money or time to do this, so crowdfunding was the only option. They decided to have the single player game SQ42 made first while also developing the MMO that is SC as it takes quite a while to make a AAA MMO where you would have to completely redesign and upgrade an game engine from the bottom up because no other engine on the market can to what their Starengine can. I personally think this was wise so that when they get the single player game out first that will secure the funds so they no longer are solely dependent on the players to pledge for ships. And all the assets, animations, etc. that is made for SQ42 is shared over to SC and vise versa, so not a complete waste of time.
I as many others are not here to act as publishers pushing CIG to get the game done and make compromises. No, I am here to follow the development in it's alpha stage, and have fun in playing the game from time to time to check up on new feature, provide feedback and data and once in a while pledge for a ship or two if there is something to like. Most of the community are adults and we have the cash to pledge for ships. I have spend 1600$ up until now, but that is over 8 years (that's only 200$ a year). Also 500 mill over 10-11 years are peanuts for a game company – that's like one AAA released game. Also the big expensive game packages that people are are crazing about (like the 30K$), those were asked to be available by the backers who have every ship almost – they wanted to have all their individually bought ships converted to one package.
There are so many misconceptions around this game when you are on the outside and the clickbate articles that come almost every year don't make it any better . Hell, many of them you can clearly read that they have never even played SC that they are making an article about. Really sad times.
But at the end of the day the gameplay that SC currently gives me, I just can't get anywhere else in any other game… and the game is still in alpha (not feature and tech complete). And when I need a break from the game due to bugs or unstable/bad patch cycle I just go play other games that a finished and released… or translated roughly to bug free π
This was a fair assessment, kudos for approaching with an open mind.
Hopefully Q1 2023 will solve the AI issue.
All the funding is going to build Squadron 42. The single player game and the tech they build is put in the multi player game as a test bed for all of us to test and find balance. SC should be polished and finished when the single player game is released. Go to the main website and check out the forum community thread. It has loads of information. The single player game is their priority. Hope you stick around next year going to be great.
12 years and me with a m.2 ssd and 32 gb and rtx 3080 cant play it .. 20 fps.. just just steal peoples money like mine
As big a scam as NFT's…
Star Citizen scale is epic and the game seems to be coming together nicely. good vid
Everyone gets the age of the game wrong, cr came up with the idea in 2011, launched the kickstarter late 2012 and the game youβre currently playing came out to alpha in 2015β¦ if you count CR dreaming in 2010 starfeild is 30 years old
Your review is very well done and honest. A new and curious player should not need to know the history of the game 100% to excuse some of the issues you have discussed.
That being said, however, I encourage you to check back into the game every quarter to see the progress. I would argue that the majority of the progress that has been made in the last five years and honestly, the last two years have had some serious and exponential improvements.
If you did this review a year ago, it would have been massively different. No loot boxes, no tractor beam, no hospital, no localized inventory system, no Orison.
Find a group to play with and the fun increases ten fold though. Players make their own content.
im here at 24:15 giggling, wondering how long it will take to realise he didnt stash all that stuff in his own inventory π
Yo to bring loot with you, you need to store it in your ship. You can do that by getting in, opening your inventory and dragging stuff from local storage to ship storage
Its funny how I was just as excited just watching you discover things. The same way I was when I started playing the game.
The AI, civilian and enemy, is one of SC's biggest problems right now (alongside with desync, poor optimization, lack of tutorials, etc). However it is being actively worked on and improved. How long will it take? well, that's a good question. The devs (and players) got tired of giving dates that are then pushed back, so now we just see what they are doing and what they release. For example, they recently added the basic functionality of deploying NPC reinforcement from ships on planets. Although like everything in SC, it lacks polish and above all it lacks servers that run at more than 3 fps.
53:00 the thing is… You and many underestimate how difficult and time consuming it is to create Star Citizen.
Sure, it may sound like an excuse, but it's simply the reality. Only CIG can make Star Citizen. No other company would be willing to put in the money and time needed (maybe not 10+ years, but a LOT of time and a LOT of money, although many don't like to admit it because it would somehow "excuse" CIG).
The closest project to SC within AAA companies is BGE2, being made by Ubisoft, which it's been in dev hell as long as Star Citizen. And its not even that ambitious (and its only 1 game).
Always love watching people try Star Citizen for the first time. Great game even if it's still an Alpha.
Welcome to the Verse Lucky, SC is a brutal game, but fantastic. Like many of the posts I've skimmed through say you only need to spend $45 to get into the game. As someone who has spent substantially more than that, due to wanting to support the project, and to some extent because cool spaceship, I will say only spend $45, unless you want to further support development, every ship you can buy on the pledge store can or will be able to be purchased in game. Several of the ships you can buy on the pledge store during the sales are still in concept, so RSI gives you a loaner ship, until the ship you pledged for becomes available in the verse. Chat is generally friendly to new players, they generally will help and give good advice. If you get truly stuck you can eat a "backspace cookie" holding down backspace will suicide you taking you to your respawn point, use this as a last resort, all items you had on you will stay with your body, and currently bodies disappear shortly after death.
Welcome aboard π
You need a back pack. Ship, body and hanger/station are different.
Server meshing which is scheduled to start implementing in the next patch and be completely done in 1st quarter of next year will make a difference for sure. Itβs the last pillar to complete the game. NPCs are having D sync issues. Server meshing should fix that. SQ 42 should release in the next year and is where all the tech for the PU comes from. Itβs made for that game and then releases to the PU.
Star Citizen is basically the only game I play because controlling a ship with dual joysticks is like nothing else in life. But because the verse is so rich and immersive, which I'm used too. I love watching videos of new players experiencing star citizen for the first time.
Brooo pleaaaassse activate vsync man, your screenteering is bad
A Great Video! but I just want to point out RPG doesn't stand for Level up and unlock skills. It stands for Role Playing Game.
For example, there's a somewhat comprehensive medical system in place, with 5 different drugs you can manually administer with the medical gun, and 3 tiers of injuries in the different places of the body. When I play with my group, I roleplay as the doctor, not only because I want to be the doctor, but because I have "skilled-up" with my knowledge of medical gameplay, and my experience managing blood toxicity levels, so I do a great job at that. You don't need dice rolls, or ability trees, or attribute points to be an RPG, but you will level up in this game, just in real life not from some integer values on the screen. Really enjoyed your video!! Welcome to the community.
should have slept on the ships bed for logout!
There isn't a tutorial (although they used to have one) because the game changes so much, it isn't worth making one until farther on. There is a hint system that you can turn on where it tells you what buttons to use etc to fly your ship.
the game can be much more fun with friends, look for a crew in chat and vets will be happy to show you around and help you out π
big difference from S.C. and Starfield is that one is a role-playing GAME, where S.C. is less "game" and more "my life in space" simulator. π
Oh! Also – it's a bad idea to fly everywhere with your throttle set to redline max! Scroll down and stay in the comfortable blue zone unless you need to go far in a straight line! π
Immersion is the idea of the game.
Also welcome to the Verse! π
Great video! It's always nice to see new players experience the awe that this game can bring…as well as the bugs that can drive you literally insane. If you ever want to see some of the bigger ships let me know, if not I'll see you in the 'verse. o7!
Welcome to the verse. It is a pleasure watching new people come onboard. Not near finished, yet, but it is getting there. The people are the best. Feel free to ask a question in game chat. People are always willing to help.
Your first landing wasn't a crash landing, so you're already doing great! π Welcome to the verse o7
