For a spooky not scary movie a must for Halloween night is the 1986 movie Trick or treat or the 1983 Stephen king movie Christine .

This definitely sits in an odd place in the balance between horror and comedy in a horror-comedy. It's a lot of fun, but yes, most horror-comedies push quite a bit more into either horror or comedy, while this pushes deep into both. It has some really horrific visuals, while the sidekick ghosts (especially) are zany.
I saw this when it first came out and hated it. This was my own fault gor not understand that it was supposed to be over the top.
Once I discovered Peter Jackson's older movies and learned that Jeffrey Combs was always a nut in movies, i rewatched it and loved it.

Was this Michael J. Fox's final movie ever?
I always loved Michael’s “woah” when he was in heaven when they sent him back. i saw this movie in my local theatre (it since burnt down a few months ago, o7); that “woah” got a laugh, but i was all, “what?” as it was an odd take.
this is like the only movie where dee wallace doesnt play a mother.
I love this movie.
Also, hope you will react to "Warm Bodies". In scare theme AND a romance. Would really fit you well. It is also an underappreciated movie with far too few reactors.
This movie pretty much had the same vibes as Beetlejuice.

Peter Jackson did Lord of the Rings but he also did Bad Taste and Dead Alive.
Cassie, you thought the movie poster was horrifying… when the film came out they had a lenticular version of the poster, so it was just the logo and a plain wall but as you walked past it the ghost face emerged from the wall, just like in the film. You'd have freaked out. I'm not sure if they did the DVD cover the same.
I worked at Weta Digital on The Lord Of The Rings. At the beginning we were using computers left over from making The Frighteners before New Line greenlit LOTR and we had the money to buy new equipment.
At the time The Frighteners had the most CGI shots of any movie ever made. It was a huge technical achievement.
Peter Jackson had a deal with Universal to make King Kong after The Frighteners. Sadly the movie bombed at the box office and Universal pulled out of the King Kong project. Peter then started shopping around his backup movie plan . . . LOTR. The rest is history.
I don't know why, but I always confuse this with High Spirits, another comedy more or less in the same genre 😄

10:08 that is Peter Jackson's son. I recognize him because he appears in the three Lord of the Rings films (as a hobbit, as a kid from Rohan and as a kid from Minas Tirith).

As much as I LOVE Jeffrey Combs as a Trekkie I think the role was written for Jim Carrey and would have been much better with Carrey

I don't think you're cut out for Peter Jackson's "best" movie: Meet the Feebles. It's a bit "off" for the typical person's taste.

This movie is so underrated, it's so fun and campy and a great plot too not boring just overall great Halloween fun!!!
The bizarre thing is, in retrospect of course this is almost exactly in between "Braindead" and "Lord of the Rings" – from here it looks like an entirely natural progression.
Hey Cassie just fyi… Milton, is played by Jeffrey Combs, whom I consider to be a GENIUS character actor. He's played about a dozen different characters in Star Trek Make-up 😄
He's just so good.., as his Character Milton here shows, I mean he always pushes the limits.., kinda like a Robin Williams-esque type
the LotR movies are pretty good – no, they are not any of the greatest movies ever or anywhere close, with lots of writing and directing issues
realize, you're still a novice, very very very novice – rewatching movies is a huge part of knowing movies better, and that means having rewatched everything you thought was good at least 2 more times after you thought it was good, and then more
you shouldn't even be watching sequels to movies you like until you've watched the first at least 3 times
don't be pretending to know movies, it makes you into (more of?) a fraud – like you saying movies were maybe 'of their time ' , no, sometimes you just don't appreciate things because you are still novice, and a bit shallow in your tastes at times
This is one of my favorite films I saw this as a kid and has one of the coolest concepts I've seen. A serial killer replacing the grim reaper. I still love this film.

Such an underrated movie. Took my ex-wife to this at the theater on one of our first dates. Lol. Fun movie with just enough of a touch of scary.

Sure I recognize the quality and the importance of the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, but the Frighteners still is my personal Peter Jackson fav!
Wow! This is a movie I didn't even know exist! And I've been fine searching all 90's movies.
This movie unfairly bombed at the box office. Peter Jackson actually started his directing career making extremely violent and gory horror movies that also had a very twisted sense of humor. This movie I found to be fun and, yes, weird, but fun too.
This is one of the last films me and my late partner went to watch at the cinema and we absolutely loved it! 😁
She wasn't much of a horror fan (like yourself) but this was the perfect amount of scary for her and she didnt shut up about it for weeks after! 😆
The film is still one of my faves and it was one of the first scary movies i watched with the daughter of our best mate while on babysitting duties, and despite being quite young at the time (7/8ish), she loved it too!! (she's a horror junkie like me n her mum though😂)
