I'm always wondering why would everything be build bigger. Is it not wiser to make everything smaller. So it would take less energy to get things working. For example, if we could upload our physical body in bits or qbits. Then via a laser we can travel with the speed of light, still slow on the scale of the universe but its something. So maybe an advanced alien species would not build a colossal Dyson Sphere but are trying to scale everything down…
The worst example of scientists "talking themselves out of it" is Oumuamua. Even if it was natural, it was still an interesting object, yet scientists were basically trying to convince us it was nothing extraordinary and doesn't deserve further investigation. I mean, just tell us you can't send a probe there. That's totally reasonable. Pretending Oumuamua was nothing extraordinary is not.
