Shadow Treasurer lambasts ‘biggest taxing’ government amid budget surplus

Shadow Treasurer Angus Taylor says household budgets are “in tatters” under the Labor government.

On Monday, Treasurer Jim Chalmers announced the Albanese government has delivered a budget surplus of $15.8 billion.

Discussing the outcome, Mr Taylor took aim at Mr Chalmers and the Albanese government.

“This is the biggest taxing government in Australian history,” Mr Taylor told Sky News Australia.

“He’s also trying to con the Australian people and saying they’ve got a wonderful situation in terms of their household budgets.”

  1. Taxes and spending increase regardless of who is in power, consequently, every government is a bigger taxing and spending government than its predecessor.
Angus Taylor will be a bigger taxer and spender than Charmless if he becomes Treasurer.

  2. Australia doesn't have a tax income problem, they have a spending problem. Spending money on the wrong things and immigrating too many people. Australia is overpopulated now. They imported 2.7% of the population in a year.

  3. Wow, Labor gave away billions to foreign interests and now promises a massive surplus. Wow! How amazing are they. Meanwhile, the country is in a recession, with small business collapsing at a record rate, tax increases everywhere, and individuals worse off than before Labor took office. So, the only excess I see is in their coffers, as Australians fall deeper into poverty under this government.

  4. Just listened to Charmers BS his ability and he has the hide to make claim its the Treasurer’s fiscal policy. And the ABC had the hide to turn off the comments. Charmers has to be the second worst treasurer behind Wayne Swan, the lies around all the failed policies and now going after mum and dad investors with a negative geared home. Shame on failed government

  5. Before they complain government spend too much. Now they complain they take too much in tax. When we all know liberals screwed the pooch on the economy by lowering tax for the rich and creating the dynamics of a stupid housing market. Be humble
