Sky News tracks luxury cars still getting to Russia despite sanctions over Ukraine war

After Russia invaded Ukraine, countries across the world, including the UK, introduced huge economic sanctions on the country.

Despite that, Sky News has uncovered evidence that luxury British cars are still being sold to Russians.

Sky’s Economics and Data editor Ed Conway tracked some of these high-end cars to the Georgia-Russia border in the Caucasus mountains.

  1. There is an easy solution to that – ban export cars to any country that has trade relations to any country that borders Russia. China will take these markets and then Sky News will make another "brilliant investigation" – "Why GB economy is collapsing…"

  2. This has to be one of the most pointless news reports I've ever seen. Who cares what luxury cars Russians are buying? The cost of these cars is a drop in the ocean compared to the billions the UK, EU, and USA are pumping into this never-ending war, and it pales in comparison to the support Russia is receiving from its allies.

When mainstream outlets like Sky are focusing on stories like this, it's pretty clear they've run out of meaningful topics to cover.

  3. Georgia desperately want to join the EU…. the EU should tell them, stop letting these cars through and then we can continue talking…. VINs can be checked at the border….. cars can be prevented from crossing…. I don't see the problem here.

  4. I was at the Lithuanian-Belarussian border and there is kilometres long queues of German cars with temporary license plates just waiting to be sold to Moscow and Minsk.

  5. The war and sanctions are paying off for Russia and Russians. Before the war Russia has 69 billionaires in the country. Today Russia has 120 billionaires with Moscow housing 74 of them. It really promoted their indigenous products. Moving their overall GDP from has moved up as well. Best decision Putin ever made for most of the Russians

  6. To be fair to JLR , how can they prevent a dealer in Azerbijan selling a RangeRover to anybody who has money to buy one , and even the dealer cannot prevent that car being re – sold into Russia . The fault lies entirely with the Azerbijani border police allowing the sanctions to be broken

  7. How about that Russian gas and oil that Britain is importing non-stop? How about a "research" on that…or that's all hush hush? I don't care, just don't try to make idiots out of everyone by using decoys.
