Harewood House, a stately home nestled in the heart of Yorkshire, England.

Harewood House’s story begins in the 18th century when Edwin Lascelles, the 1st Baron Harewood, commissioned its construction. The Lascelles family, with wealth accumulated from sugar plantations in the West Indies, envisioned a grand residence that would reflect their status and affluence. Construction started in 1759 and was completed in 1771.

The architectural design of Harewood House was entrusted to the celebrated architect John Carr of York, who created a Palladian-style masterpiece. Later, the renowned architect Robert Adam was brought in to design the interiors, adding his signature neoclassical touches. Harewood House has strong connections to British royalty. In the 20th century, Princess Mary, the daughter of King George V and Queen Mary, married Henry Lascelles, the 6th Earl of Harewood. Princess Mary’s influence is still evident in various aspects of the house and gardens.

During World War II, Harewood House played a crucial role as a convalescent hospital for injured soldiers. After the war, the house underwent significant restoration and modernisation efforts to preserve its historical and cultural significance for future generations.

Today, Harewood House is a charitable trust and is open to the public, Visitors can explore the lavish state rooms, wander through the beautifully landscaped gardens, and enjoy various exhibitions and events held throughout the year.
