Dragon quest looked like this and it came out before Pokemon, just as long as there as there is no throwing devices to capture monsters it's fine.
(Shin megami tensei is the first monster taming game)
I love the engine they are building so far. Just wish pixel artists were easier to come by for commissioning 😩
