“Under the Banner of Heaven” is an original limited series inspired by the true crime bestseller by Jon Krakauer, which follows the events that led to the 1984 murder of Brenda Wright Lafferty and her baby daughter in a suburb in the Salt Lake Valley, Utah. As Detective Jeb Pyre investigates events that transpired within the Lafferty family, he uncovers buried truths about the origins of the LDS religion and the violent consequences of unyielding faith. What Pyre, a devout Mormon, unearths leads him to question his own faith.

  10. I’m just in the beginning of the first show. I remember this happening and I am LDS and lived one town over from this at the time of the murders. This is inaccurate! It makes me so mad when people say these disturbed people are LDS. They started that way and then decided they wanted to make their own rules and be the prophet of their own church. Then they twist the rules and create their own church. The Lafferty’s were RLDS or FLDS “Reorganized or Fundamentalist” LDS. The LDS church has not allowed polygamy since the 1800’s. We also didn’t and don’t dress like pioneers unless it’s a costume or reenactment. We also don’t talk like this…we don’t have more than one wife! I hate when they get things so wrong!

  11. Is this show a true story? Just wondering before I go quoting this movie to those who come to my house in white shirts. Like how accurate is this? Cause im about to take notes and tear these to shreds haha

    Epic performances by ALL actors, esp B. Howle and G. Birmingham.. I can't believe it was snubbed like that in the EMMYS.. 😵‍💫
    Goes to show how big is the Mormon influence .. they'd already lowered its rate at imbd by massive down voting.

  20. Such a great show. We just finished it. I had no idea that the guy who wrote this also wrote Milk and J. Edgar. A very talented guy. I can't help but mention that while watching this all I could think was, all organized religions seem to be the same. It comes down to, question everything, listen to what your gut tells you and no man has a special relationship with God that you yourself can't have. Most of the time it's just them wanting power and money. Think Joel Osteen etc.

  22. Was really excited for this. Couldn’t even get half way through the first episode due to how incorrect the portrayal of the LDS church/culture was. It was as if the producers and writing staff had never spoken to/consulted a real member of the church a single time in their entire lives. Not even referring to the theology of it (which was also wrong) but just basic mannerisms, language and culture was so clearly incorrect and based in utter fantasy. Was as if someone who had only ever heard of false rumors of the church had written the entire script. Very disappointed
