Julia Hartley-Brewer SLAMS PM Refusing To Rule Out Scrapping Free Bus Passes

Talk’s Julia Hartley-Brewer hits out at Keir Starmer refusing to rule out scrapping free bus passes and the single-person council tax discount.

Westminster has no plans to increase English council taxes, Angela Rayner has confirmed, but she declined to say whether she would scrap the single person discount to the bill.

The Deputy Prime Minister, who is also the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, told the Commons her Government “is about making sure that working people are better off”.

Julia says: “I’m wondering whether Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves are planning to grab the food out of the hands of grannies at this rate?”

  1. I think Starmer and company are guilty of “Non-crime hate” for targeting the elderly, who are statistically far less likely to vote Labour than they are the Conservative Party..

The saying “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil, is that good men (Or women in this case) do nothing” describes perfectly the moral bankruptcy of all those who abstained during the winter fuel allowance vote, because they value the good will of a petulant, bullying liar over the health of millions of elderly people, 4,000 of whom are at risk of dying this winter according to Labour’s own information..

Jon Trickett, with whom I disagree vehemently on most policies, has shown himself to be the only Labour Party MP with an ounce of personal integrity…

That takes the number of people in Starmer’s government worthy of respect, to one.

  2. If they remove freedom pass I will no longer be able to see my daughter. She is disabled and cannot come to me while my income is so tight, I could not afford the fares to visit her. I get tube and bus and the cost would be out of reach for me.

  4. The poorest people that have worked hard all their lives on low wages that could not save for their retirement, can curl up and die in a cold damp room on their own , while the Government hands out Billions that have never worked in this Country
What have we been paying taxes for for all our life ?
To see a doctor you can get an appointment to see
For 2 year wait for an operation in hospital
For nhs dentist that doesn't take on new patients
For social housing that goes to immigrants
For a pension that you might not get because they want people to work till they are 70 plus , most people I know have died in their mid 70's
SHAME ON THE GOVERNMENT'S THAT RUN THE COUNTRY

  5. I'm sick and tired of Government's of all political colour having a go at pensioners. I worked all my life until I retired, I saved when I was younger because I knew I was going to get old and that one day that extra bit of income would help to maintain some standard of living. But I'm no rich pensioner. My wife only gets her State Pension as she didn't have a job when younger because she was a carer to her elderly parents who are now both gone. I paid reduced N.I. because I was contracted out for a while due to my job. What have I done then that is so abhorrent to this Government that they should remove our Winter Fuel Allowance and threaten (it seems) our free bus/tram travel? Is reduced rate for students going to be next on their hit list? Why do they treat their own citizens this way yet give billions away in foreign aid, including those scroungers making their way over here in small boats. They do absolutely nothing about them. They are impotent in the face of a few small boats bringing thousands of undocumented strangers into our land yet they feel that pensioners should bear the brunt of paying towards keeping these people in a life of luxury. Am I right in believing these migrants are given a weekly allowance? Why don't the Government stop that as these people have contributed nothing to this country. Few of them are GENUINE asylum seekers. What a country we live in. Our forefathers must be turning in their graves at the cowards and incompetents that run this country nowadays.

  6. pensioners who are in the 40% tax bracket may not need the fuel allowance so an easy cut off point. or I suppose a pensioner could complain on a media outlet and be put in prison with heat and food ?? prob sorted !!!

  7. carnivores always choose the weakest … when they crunch they sounds like a grinding machine … listen to the rhythm of sounds from the jaws – terrifying – it walks like it behaves like and it sounds like – what do you think it is ? don't think, don't look, don't talk nor write … sad to watch but it pours from the top, don't drive in tunnels … run

  8. Just retired here – we've made it impossible for the young to settle down and have stable nuclear families through high housing costs and student debt so unfortunately there is noone else they can tax except the old

  9. I invested 90% of my pension pot in a London flat, hoping it may grow 10% or so over 5yrs so I could afford to buy my "final" house. Since then,
~ Grenfell has wiped 30% off my property value,
~ winter fuel allowance is being taken away,
~ they plan to remove my 25% discount on the Poll Tax,
~ and they plan to make it almost impossible to get my money back AT ALL, if they give these so called "no fault" evictions.

How are evictions "no fault," when someone knew they were signing a Lease for only 12 months ? How is it " not their fault" if I want MY MONEY back after, that 12 month period has expired ? 🤬👿💩

  10. It,s relentless because they can remember and tell their grandchildren the truth about Britain and history about ww2 and what it was like after he doesn’t want that he wants it easier to control the younger generations because you dont miss what you never knew .

  11. So they're taking away the winter fuel payment, now thinking of cancelling the free bus pass and probably also stop the free prescriptions. Instead they are still giving away foreign aid, they receive a very comfy salary with expenses (and heating bill paid) and are happy to pay all these migrants to live in hotels free of charge, with food and heating provided. Have I missed anything? Why we haven't seen massive demonstrations is beyond me.
