Atomic bombs use nuclear fission to cause their yield. Nuclear bombs use nuclear fusion to accomplish their yield which is more powerful. Both devices used against Hiroshima, and Nagasaki were atomic bombs. Also, a B-29's engines don't sound like a single engine fighter!

To think rhat part of the thinking behind the bombs use was to study the effects and how devastating it would be to those in its wake, chills me to the core. It certainly knocked the masculinity out of the Japanese people, hence the society it has become.

People who think in simplistic us vs. them terms miss the overall picture. Nuclear weapons are evil, like instruments of the devil, and should never be used again and should be eradicated. Unfortunately, this is the legacy we have left our children and descendents, along with irreversible catastrophic climate change as long as nothing is done to stop it. But it would require a reversal in human thought and behavior, even a change in our DNA, on a massive level. Our planet and humankind are entering a new dimension, however, 5D, which just might usher in the transformation needed. It has already started, when human beings everywhere realize we are not separate, we all need to band together to defeat the evils that have their birth in human thought waves: nuclear weapons, war, poverty, oppression, fascism, climate change and environmental devastation. The fact that Japs did not surrender after Hiroshima proves that it was necessary to use these weapons. Even after Nagasaki, many Japs still did not want to surrender. I know many people who lived through WWII. Truman had no choice.
