Crooked believes that we need a better conversation about politics, culture, and the world around usโ€”one that doesnโ€™t just focus on whatโ€™s broken, but what we can do to fix it. At a time when itโ€™s increasingly easy to feel cynical or hopeless, former Obama staffers Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, and Tommy Vietor have created a place where people can have sane conversations that inform, entertain, and inspire action. In 2017 they started Crooked with Pod Save Americaโ€”a no-bullshit conversation about politics. Since then, we continue to add shows, voices, and opportunities for activism, because itโ€™s up to all of us to do our part to build a better world. Thatโ€™s it. End of mission.

  1. Did y'all come back and do this podcast before it was over? Or maybe during a rehearsal? I can hear music!๐Ÿ˜…

ETA: You don't think it was necessary to go through all the bad things Trump did?? First, she didn't. Second, this was the Democratic National Convention!

  2. The speech convinced me not to vote for her. She won't be any different than Biden in their ghoulish support for Israel's genocide. She prioritized Israeli civilians as if they were the ones who are currently seeing 40,000 of their civilians murdered, and invoked debunked claims about sexual violence when as we speak, Israel is debating whether or not the IDF soldiers who raped Palestinian detainees to death should be allowed to. She's chosen a side, both by eliminating the Palestinian speaker from her speaking slot, then by simping for Zionist libs and warmongering about Iran. Anyone this craven will do anything for power. And once in power, she will do anything to keep it. The speech proved she simply doesn't view Palestinians as equal or fully as human as Jews or Israelis. They're just an aside. Their death and suffering is talked about in passive tense, with no mention of what's caused those deaths. But you and all the wine spritzer libs can dance the night away at the DNC all week while the most reasonable voices for peace are on the street, shut out of the "big tent party." Don't ever lecture me again about "preserving democracy" or protecting women's reproductive rights, when you don't even view a Palestinian's right to not be murdered as of equal value. And "prosecuting the case" against Trump or protecting "the rule of law" means nothing when you protect a war criminal like Netanyahu.

  3. This is just another thing we can thank Biden for, the establishment dems didnโ€™t want her to be the candidate, they wanted to open the process up, which would have been a disaster. We didnโ€™t have the time to do anything except rally behind one candidate. Biden saw her as an electable candidate when others didnโ€™t. His quick decision to endorse her sealed the deal, when in normal situations it may not have. Thank you Joe.

  5. You talked about turning the convention around for the top of the ticket, but I want to call you out for doing an amazing job for crooked! The Friend of the Pod folks, myself included, got huge treats. And seeing you all energized and having a great time was a real treat. Thanks for your hard work, I, for one, appreciate the hell out of you.

  6. I thought her speech was largely pretty good. I take immense issue with her portion on Gaza as she codes it as caring about both sides equally but she never commits to calling that cruelty towards Palestinians what it truly is: a genocide. She also sounded more hawkish on foreign policy in general than my tastes, but considering we are moving to the general election, I expected some movement towards the center (aka center right) on this.

As long as she sticks to a more progressive economic platform like what Biden started, things are looking good. Biden impressed me with his handling on the economy even with a pandemic and corporate greed culminating in some rough inflation, and since Harris wants to bare minimum keep pushing that forward, I will be content.

Her section on Trump was master class. She was really able to lay it all out in plain terms and didn't make anything sound corny. I really hope she got through to some voters who were considering sitting out or voting for Trump but mostly begrudgingly.

  7. My mayor, my governor, could have run for president but he always knows something and always chooses the right Road so he stayed in California to finish the great job he's doing, like picking up trash from tunnels in LA last week. His day will come๐Ÿ’– Great guy!

  8. Instead of people treating this as history making, people should be saying itโ€™s about time! Why? Other countries have women presidents and prime ministers. We call this history making because of sexism. It should be itโ€™s about time and normal!

  11. i live in calif and have my whole life and i did love newsom especially during covid, he didn't raise the minimum wage for anyone except fast food workers basically to 20 an hour and no that has not produced more jobs for anyone or at least my city, they jhave cut down to around 3 people in them one taking orders one cooking and the other cleaning it takes forever to get food anymore if you can afford it. for my my son and his dad to eat at carls jr is over 50.00 and then you get home and you think how stupid is this we used to pay less than 30 so we don't eat fast food any longer.
