Mamata Banerjee Demands Death Penalty for Doctor’s Murderer in North Kolkata
Kolkata Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has vowed to pursue the death penalty for the individual accused of murdering a female doctor at a government hospital in north Kolkata. The body was discovered on Friday in a seminar hall, with preliminary autopsy findings indicating she was sexually abused before being killed.
Banerjee has instructed officials to fast-track the case through the court system and has expressed support for the junior doctors’ protests, which demand severe punishment for the perpetrator. She also stated that the government would allow any investigating agency, including the CBI, to handle the case if requested.
Describing the crime as horrific, Banerjee urged junior doctors to continue their critical work while maintaining their protest. Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal assured that the accused will face the ‘highest punishment’ if found guilty.
