What do you do if you get mail addressed to an LLC in Colorado?

It’s relatively easy to register an LLC in Colorado, as the filing fee is only $50. That may be part of the reason the Colorado Secretary of State gets hundreds of complaints about fake LLCs — and when a Coloradan starts getting suspicious mail addressed to an LLC, the investigation into what’s happening can take months.

Kristen Speth called Steve On Your Side after getting three pieces of suspicious mail. Each envelope had her home address, but all three were addressed to an LLC.

  1. The hole is in our identity system which hasn't been upgraded in over 50 years since they added photos to id cards. I just had my identity stolen. Since then, I've learned you cannot report identity theft to the FTC online without having a valid phone number. I havent had a phone in over a year. Next, I tried calling on a borrowed phone. Before I could report anything, automated system informed me the FTC does not take action on behalf individuals, only corporations. Basically, if I defraud an institution, they'll come after me. But, I get defrauded, I'm on my own. Capitalist pigs!

  2. Don't get me started on the mail! I had to move my mailbox to be near MY house and not the neighbor's house because where it WAS was beside my neighbor's window where his very large and loud pit bull was usually. I was afraid to check my mail so I talked to the post office and moved my mailbox. SO many times I would get mail for other people and I would write return to sender on it… or they would send me mail for the JAIL because some people wrote the number to look like my street number. I went INTO the post office and talked to them about sending my mail to the jail (one time they sent my kid's birthday presents there) while sending the JAIL mail to me…. I just left it in the box a lot…. It's not my job after numerous attempts to get the postal carriers to do their jobs. My grandson's first birth certificate and social security card vanished in the mail. I had to pay for replacements. I am the ONLY person to have purchased my grandson's birth certificates. I gave copies to his parents… had to replace them, also…. supposedly my aunt sent me a gift card once, but it never came so I just presumed that she lied about that like she did coming to visit before she left. It's not my job to hunt down my ex's for child support either.
