  1. I wonder if drones will ever be a weapon used by domestic terrorists or against rival gangs/organized crime/armored trucks carrying currency, etc? Here in eastern Canada, whenever our prime minister visits, we see the usual RCMP presence – rooftop checks, ordnance-sniffing K9's, RCMP with full-auto C8 Carbines, etc. But there's also at least one van with a satellite uplink for drone surveillance – but whether they're able to scramble signals of any potential drone threats, I'm not sure.

I owned a drone once, and I was amazed with how easy it was to fly, and how much freedom of view it gave me. My friend had an expensive drone that followed above/behind him on his motorbike for some great footage. They're super-regulated now, though, you have to take a course, put your name/contact info on the drone, etc. It took me less trouble to get my gun license. But as much as I dislike being told what to do by my gov't, I can't disagree with the policy. It's so easy to militarize a drone, remotely detonate it, etc, if you knew how to acquire/rig ordnance to it, or position a makeshift pistol in its frame. Civilians tried to take out Maduro in Venezuela with a militarized consumer drone attack but it was only unsuccessful because they missed.

The US Navy used a laser to destroy a drone in the Persian Gulf. I read that Raytheon, Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin are all developing anti-UAV countermeasures. Secret Service would likely be using something already. Don't be surprised if Russia are employing Chinese/Iranian versions of their own.

Counter-drone measures obviously exist, but consumers trying to block them are breaking tons of laws in North America, since it can disable devices & coms used by first responders, police, coast guard, etc. I've been using laser jammers on my car since 2017. Canadian product, detects all types of radar/laser used by police, and jams every police laser gun for X seconds, then lets them punch through so they don't suspect the signal. Even defeats the Dragon Eye used in Ontario. Saved me a few times, but I always do wonder if they're going to see the two pods sticking out of my car's grill & know what they are. I love tech, always have, but there's always a bigger bear, so to speak. I won't be messing with illegal drone activity – authorities love to make public spectacles out of their tech, it instills a confidence in them.

Fight on, Ukraine! Much respect from Canada. Raise your flag over the Kremlin.

  3. As with all wars, this is a stupid war. BUT, great reporting on the use of drones. I just hate that we, as a species, still haven't figured out a better conflict resolution other than wholesale murder.

  4. Terrifying results for one drone’s destructive power blowing up buildings, trucks, tanks and other Russian military equipment changing the way war between Ukraine and Russia unfold since the beginning of invasion.

  5. It is incredible that the journalist does not name the best drone of the war. The one that the Ukrainian army is currently copying using reverse engineering because they have nothing like it. Without a doubt the best drone and the one that has given an incredible performance is the Russian Lancet 4. As everyone has been able to see, obviously on Telegram and not on YouTube, it knocked out the “almighty” Leopard II and the never-defeated Challenger. More Anglo-Saxon propaganda as usual. Enjoy your Brexit crisis and what you voted for.
