I honestly believe that there are spirits just not the kind we believe they are (past individuals). Demons can mimic those who have passed.

The wrinkles in time seem to overlap with the modern day, stories of ghost tanks appearing on a modern road. I would think it not uncommon for the places of greatest suffering to have been impressed or stamped with the human interaction.
