The Alani are in the system and if you don't destroy them by firing the gun, they will destroy the gun, but although the gun will fire you don't want to fire it without the 'important bits' but if you don't fire it, it will be destroyed by the Alarni. WHY is this even a decision ❓❓ Good story though.
