  1. For me the aspects that make a great Flagship is the following list
    – iconic badass design
    – a great fight that's also a challenge
    – a great theme
    – awesome gear
    – being a embodiment of that games ideas and mechanics
    – good story integration that gives good context to the fight which is the signal most important factor for me

Now a monster doesn't need to have everything but these are the key things, and a monster might be great on its own but not necessarily be a strong flagship due to just kinda being there

Might aswell share my own tier list of Flagships, remember I'm judging these monsters on their ability as Flagships not just being cool monsters

S TIER/amazing, hits every point and has great story integration
    Gore magala
    Lagiacrus
    Malzeno

    A TIER/being good decent Flagships
    Tigrex
    Zinogre
    Seregios
    Nergigante
    Velkhana

B TIER/good monsters but are just kinda there with next to no story involvement
    Rathalos
    Kushala daora
    Nargacuga
    Brachydios
    Glavenus/the fated 4
    Valstrax

C TIER/below avarage or a miss in just every aspect
    Azure rathalos

D TIER/being acutaly kinda trash and bad by every metric
    Magnamalo

Il be happy to justify to anyone why I've put certain monsters in the tiers I have

  2. I’m curious why the other members of the fated 4 weren’t included? I know Glavenus is the one on the box but I figured they shared the title of flagship for generations?

  3. Kush isn’t that bad… Yeah I lie, I steamroll it so bad that it barely registers as a speed bump to me.

Wind resistance is good, but not needed. Pop a flash bomb in its face anytime it decides to take to the sky (which is frequent) and the swing for the fences. Ranged weapons are ideal but unneeded as well.

  4. So mhw is my first and only monster hunter so far, so I can’t really comment on these monsters as flagships except Nergigante (peak) and Velkhana (pretty solid), and can’t even comment on several of them at all cause they’re not in world. That being said, glavenus, nargacuga, and zinogre are some of my favourites, brachydios is quite good, rathalos is iconic and pretty fun, but what you said about azure rathalos was really funny to me cause I don’t notice any difference in world except maybe he spends more time in the air than regular. Also with Kushala daora, I don’t actually find them that annoying, probably in my bottom 5 elder dragons, but not in my bottom 5 of all monsters. The tornadoes are annoying, but in world they’re just not that difficult otherwise and can still be taken down quickly. Now lastly tigrex, they probably are in my bottom 5 monsters, I just find them incredibly annoying to fight as well as having a design that’s middling at best. Something about slapping a t rex head on a large pterosaur just doesn’t do it for me, I don’t think he looks good and then yeah isn’t very fun to fight (brute is worse though). But yeah that’s all I’ve got here, maybe I’ll play another monster hunter game once I’ve gotten every achievement in world lol
