In general I find MCO to be the worst airport. I am a American Airlines person and the lounge there is awful. I know this was a nationwide shutdown but I experience more delayed flights in MCO then anywhere and lines are always long.
I was supposed to fly with my baby on Friday and our first delta flight was delayed causing us to miss our connecting flight. We decided to cancel the trip due to no other good flights for a baby. Delta gave us credit and we lost out on our money for the American tickets flight back. We weren’t going to get stuck in Atlanta with a baby. I was already stressed when our flights were on time lol what a mess! Glad you made it!
This episode was like you, Adam, being a roving reporter out there “on the front ‘line’” of the outage craziness. Can you imagine going back to a time before the internet, before computers? Thankfully, businesses didn’t have to completely shut down or come to a standstill. Can you imagine if all the airplanes themselves had to be completely grounded indefinitely?! Of course they rely on computers too! The Pittsburgh airport looks quite “vintage”! Nice you decided to follow through with your plans and you made it there!
I was booked to fly from Grand Rapids MI to Oakland CA via Atlanta on Delta on July 19 to celebrate my bday. However, I woke up in the morning, the Atlanta – Oakland Leg was cancelled. and they automatically modified my trip to take 2 transfers via MSP and SLC. I just cancelled my trip on Delta and rebooked on Southwest Airlines Grand Rapids-Oakland via Chicago Midway. Luckily, they were NOT effected by this Global IT. When Delta Failed, Southwest Prevails.
You were lucky. I was flying Allegiant to Melbourne FL and it was cancelled. But was lucky I could go to MCO, Sanford or Melbourne and they got me on the next day to Sanford. Life is always an adventure!!
I live in Atlanta and I can’t believe how relatively easy you got out of town yesterday! I’ve heard nightmare stories and have friends whose flights were canceled after being at the airport all day.
I bet there is no calmer video about the great computer outage and full ground stop of the airlines anywhere on YouTube 🤣 Glad you made it to Pittsburg!
My mom works at delta she was there it was a virus on the computers because they use Microsoft everybody return today that’s why all the stuff happened.😊
Adam: I think it is hilarious the fact my flight had no issues. In fact our whole team flying in multiple directions had no issues flying. I was on American Airlines 😂 Sorry I find it funny that you just switched from flying American and they were flying with no real issues. I just read the news today (Sunday) and it stated Delta had to cancel 400+ more flights as they still have outages. People are still having issues leaving Atlanta. Ouch! Side note – I’m on my 2nd flight flying out of TPA on American – No issues. Reevaluate my friend. 😎
The “tug boat thing” is called a pushback and it is designed to push out or tow aircraft to/from gates.
I realize this is a freak event, but it just confirms another reason why I avoid air travel as much as possible.
I can't tell you how many times I've changed my vacation destination with airline tickets ready to purchase because I just don't want to deal with airlines twice (there and back).

We were supposed to fly out to Maine early Saturday morning. All flights were cancelled until around 11pm Sunday night. Craziness!
Noticed on the departure board had the windows activation notice watermark 😮😮
Yeah it wasn't a microsoft outage it was a crowdstrike outage and it affected microsoft based systems.
