New World Devs FINALLY Give A Clear Statement About Minimaps!



The New World Devs have finally released a clear statement about minimaps, their plans for the future when it comes to implementing one and if the current Overwolf minimap is allowed. They also specified what features the minimap is allowed to show and verified that you currently don’t get banned for using an external minimap.

  1. Bro I just want to be able to see node locations for nodes that I've unlocked the ability to track, especially since the New World compass itself works 10% of the time, don't care about all the other bullshit.

  2. This comment is so strange. In the first part they describe in detail why it is not a good decision to add a mini-map and then they allow it without any explanation on why. This makes no sense at all.

    It's basically saying "we don't want it" but don't know how to prevent cheating from happening.

  3. Does overwolf minimap already show team positions?

    This is huge for wars, since one major issue has been you have to open map constantly to track your team position.

    Absolutely must have for structured PvP.

  4. Well, you argue that being able to see nodes on compass at the same ranges you see them on the compass is a gained function, but it isn’t really. Because if you see nodes on the compass you can see the node on the regular map already. This does not apply to mobs of course. The minimap is thus the regular map with fewer steps. (On the note of being able to see team/party in pvp, this IS significant of course).

  5. There, again, I see a brand of denial I am keenly familiar with. New World is not a 3D environment. Rather it is a simulation of a 3D space projected onto a 2D surface. All a minimap provides is compensation for that basic fact. How we interact with physical space is different from how we do with a flat projection. Further, it favors certain cognitive abilities over others that should be irrelevant to game performance as they're randomly assigned to people. Thus the minimap is also an accessibility issue.
