Nice! I’m a US Army vet & former 19Kilo M1 Abrams tanker, but also a big history buff & military history buff. As it were, my two favorite historical eras are the Roman Empire & World War 2. As a tanker & history buff tanks & armored warfare is one of my favorite subtopics especially WW2 armor.
The first Gulf War was acutely one-sided & as impressive modern tanks with modern tech are, there is something special about WW2 tanks. The tanks of WW2 had progressed & evolved rapidly from their introduction in WWI. The advancements in tanks in around 2 decades was astounding. The improvements in the guns, sights, ammunition, etc were exponential. The precursor of the modern sabot subcaliber round was introduced in WW2. They were quite advanced & the basic form hasn’t changed much since then; WW2 tanks were the archetypes upon which we design modern tanks. German tanks were the first class machines of the time though there were developments across all armies & nations in armor. The Panther & Tiger are personal favorites but I also love the Panzer IV. I can’t get enough of them.
Obviously WW2 was a catastrophic & bloody era for humanity. Millions perished & yet humanity seems to quickly forget the “Never Again!” Message that WW1 & WW2 were supposed to inculcate onto the world. RIP to all those who died whether military or civilian & may all those who suffered during the time finally find peace. It’s easy to romanticize WW2. When you think of prop driven fighters & tanks of WW2, it’s easy to aggrandize the combat & romanticize dog fights & tank duels. There were no ballistic computers or heat seeking missiles. You benefited from technology, sound tactics & plentiful logistics but there was a lot of skill involved in WW2 aerial & armored warfare. It truly was a test of wits, nerves & skill due to the absence of the digital tech that helps soldiers today. So I think that is what captures our imagination. The skills you needed & used mattered greatly.
Anyway thanks for this new video! Delving into it right away. I have work to do but I can’t resist. This video & channel are a bad influence as I’m shirking my responsibilities & procrastinating so I can satiate my impulses.🤘🙂👍
