CORRECTION – when it comes to the Captain’s Cards: you are dealt 2, you keep both. At the end you firgure the score for both of them, BUT you only use the higher score for the game in your total.

Was that a house rule to use only 1 of the Captain cards ? The rules I have state to use both, but only use Victory Points for the lowest scorer….

During a turn you had unloaded 2 Vikings then 1 , in back to back to turns. But you can unload 3 Vikings in a single turn. Although in that case, your longship would get empty and as per the games rule it is acceptable.
