"ROUND-BASED" Is NOTHING Like THIS in MW3 Zombies!

The UNSTABLE RIFT has been introduced in SEASON 4 RELOADED of MW3 Zombies! This rift was supposed to “satisfy” round-based fans and provide a 100% Cooldown refresh on every schematic! For as much fun and challenge it is: I feel very strongly that the UNSTABLE RIFT is NOTHING like “ROUND-BASED” Zombies, and here’s why!

  1. The Unstable Rift is the latest in the trend of "good idea, poor execution" in MWZ.

It's fun, but the most difficult thing is actually finding and activating the obelisks and making it to the rift first. (And extremely frustrating when you spend most the game trying to unlock the rift only to have some random take it.)

Like Doughnuts said, it's missing everything that makes round based enjoyable. It's way to easy to cheese it with a team using RGLs and Deadwire Detonators.

It had so much promise as a concept, but the only reason to run it is to reset schematic cooldowns. There isn't much else to drive replaying it.

  2. @Doughnuts you're comparing apples to oranges. The gameplay in round based, on average, is very similar to that of the unstable rift. Yes, now we know it's not kill based like in regular zombies but time based. Nonetheless, the game play of shooting everything and surviving until the next round is the same.
Also, you can't compare one tiny location and its goal to the entire map/game of regular round based zombies. Of course there's no pack a punch machine, of course there is no Easter egg – it's supposed to be a short experience.

Your comparison is like when you are asked to compare Pepsi and Coke. In short, they're both sodas or fizzy drinks if you will. Very similar as opposed to, say, coffee. Also, both Pepsi and Coke taste almost the same. (yes, I know you can tell the difference. So can I). If you want to describe the taste of one of them, say Pepsi, you'd say it tastes (almost) like Coke as opposed to tasting like Sprite or green tea.

However, your approach of highlighting how different unstable rift is from round based is similar to highlighting diference between Pepsi and Coke that has nothing to do with their being the same drink (ie soda) or having very similar taste. Instead, you're picking on how their packaging colors are different, how they have different CEO, headquarters in different locations, etc.
    It's apples to oranges.

There's a reason why so many people feel that the experience you get within the rift in terms of game play is very similar to round based zombies.

Yes, you're right, too, that there's much more to round based experience overall than one can get in the rift.

Nonetheless, if someone only plays the last part of the Easter egg in Die machine in Cold War where you're helping Megatron and then you need to escape and run to the helicopter, then most people will say that it's very similar to the game play in the unstable rift. THAT'S the comparison that most people, in my opinion, are making when comparing the unstable rift to round based.

Adding this in edit: this is for those who are not familiar with Die Machine Easter egg, and for clarity, as I am certain @Doughnuts knows this being the enthusiast he is.
The final part of the Easter egg in Die Machine is time limited round. By then, you will have upgraded all your weapons, got all the perks you needed. All that is left to do is survive the onslaught of zombies and bosses and then within a time limit escape to the helicopter

  3. You are absolutely right, the new unstable rift is just a tower defense challenge. Honestly i never thought I will enjoy round based so much, but after finally beating one of the easter eggs ( Forsaken) I absolutely fell in love with round based, it's a very unique experience and I cannot wait to play BO6. So yes the new rift is not even close to the proper round based experience.

  4. Each to their own. Round based got boring to me after a while. I very much like the open world mode and wish they gave it as many updates as they do warzone. New maps, new contracts, random spawn of contracts. Round based just cannot compare in my opinion.
