Why Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree just got a ton of negative reviews, and why I ragequit the DLC yesterday.

  1. Design-wise the dlc is a 10. The bosses are cool looking and the story is pretty rad. That being said, I went into the dlc as a 191 character knowing about the Scadutree fragments and collected to the point of being level 5 before the first main boss (Rellana). And got my shit pushed in for over two hours before luckily myself and some summons put her down. I’m fine with difficulty, I’m fine with challenge. What I’m not fine with is their adopted philosophy that EVERY. SINGLE. ENEMY. needs a 10-hit unstaggerable combo that 2/3 shots the player regardless of level. And pretty much every enemy has that in this dlc. It’s tired. It’s old. I feel like they made it difficult just for difficulty sake. Which is a shit design philosophy, IMO. Malenia was a pain in the ass but she wasn’t ANYWHERE near as annoying as ANY dlc boss for this game. I’ve got a couple bosses left but I’m done until the patch. I’ll go back and play the base game and all that until the patch it out. Because like you – I’m just not having any fun with it.

  2. It is definitely hard but difficulty isn’t the issue, the bosses are just horrificly boring and tedious, rellana was a awesome boss who had a set of patters to learn and beating her was very satisfying, most other bosses like Romima or the dancing lion just spam aoe and non counterable attacks that lead to just running around waiting for a specific attack getting one hit on then rinse and repeat for the whole fight, it’s boring and bad design that gets covered up by people just saying “oh it’s a skill issue” nah even after I beat them it was just a feeling of happiness I don’t have to slog through them again rather than actually beating them

  3. 5:16 First playthrough of Sekiro was definitely harder for me than SotE. But SotE is definitely hard. The bosses are way more aggressive than the base game, leaving less openings for counter attacks and healing

  4. Seeing people lack all empathy and not able to understand Asmond reminds me that most people are just garbage.

Guy knows himself and how to manage his stressors and people are too smooth brained to get it.

  5. I have noticed most people are using the exact same kind of physical build instead of using magic.
For some reason, veteran players are failing to adapt, because newbies do not play this dlc.

  6. I think a big part of it is how many people have broken down Elden Ring into a science with every item located, every boss thoroughly analyzed, and people have played through a bagillion times. Now they have to play a game with all new challenges. Of course it’s harder to do things for the first time.

  7. Dude "skill issue" is offensive! Day one souls player platinum on every game including elden ring, I hate people say I suck yet its not my skill. Also not complaining about difficulty, it's empty! Explore and die for hours to get a stupid rowa fruit lol.

  8. I know this game is always gonna be hard, and I’m not really an expert but some I feel the bosses are different from the original game, which I loved. I’m not mad about the fact that it takes me 60 try’s on the harder bosses but I do get mad when I’m trying to heal and messmer throws his spear across the arena to kill me while fighting my mimic. I’m also bored with the weapons which do insanely small damage for my ng+ character. The only thing I enjoy about this dlc is the open world and that about it.

  10. The thing nobody is aknowlegding is that the game is easy, the players make it it hard on purpose and complain. You can level up, you can use more powerful spells, items, weapons, you can use summons, you can use co op. You can't refuse to use ALL of this and then complain the game is too hard. Can you say Pokémon is hard because nuzlocks exist? No you can't, but that's exactly what everybody does with souls games.

  11. Im a player who has finished all from soft souls games and dlc. I fucking loved this DLC. The world is amazing. The verticality is awesome. I never found it too hard. I explored everywhere, found the blessings. And felt myself getting more powerful. The bosses (to an extent) were all really good in my opinion… all but one.

The final boss. Is in my opinion. Stupid. The first phase is great. i spent a long time learning the moves and could get to the 2nd phase without taking too many hits. (The only one being that 2 swipe then cross slash. Actually pathetic. There no way to not get it if you dont have a shield)

But the 2nd phase is the most screen clutter flashing eye cancer phase ive ever seen. He closes distance ridiculously fast (which isnt bad) but his massive hair gets in the way. I couldn't see shit. Its the most frustrating fight ive ever defeated.

Other than that fight. I fucking loved it. Its just that fight that soured it for me.

  12. Beat the game yesterday with medium roll, no summons, str build, and no magic whatsoever. Ya know the drill already.

Maybe this’ll be the day people stop taking these Dark Souls “veterans” seriously.

  13. i am enjoying the dlc bc its difficult (to each their own of course) but IMO i think people are used to how easy the base game is and everyone is just not used to the dark souls formula of just pain and suffering bc they've been babied with Elden Ring.

edit: They were told it was gonna be hard, they didnt have to buy it
