Damn Homelander sounds like a toxic wahman in this scene
Now that I really look on it,homelander does kinda have a split personality kind of deal. Like how the way his reflection called him john meaning that john is the human part that needs love while there is homelander who is the twisted maniac that that we know and dominates most of his mind.Noticing why he only wears the costume and nothing else Is a bit of a hint on that and how he only calls himself homelander to keep his feelings and real self away
Deep down I think Homelander is somewhat jealous of Ryan. You know, cause there were actually people who cared for and love him. Homelander was merely a science project, as seen in S4 E4.

The "why!?" at 0:47 sounds quite heartbreaking. You can hear Homelander's need for love and approval, sounding almost like a frightened child, it's amazing.
This is actually a fairly typical family disagreement
As awful a person as Homelander is, it's difficult not to feel sorry for him. He was purely a product of his environment and he tries, in his own way, to be a good father. This shows that he's a victim of how he was raised and not simply a mass-murdering psycho. I imagine that this is the showrunners' way of pointing out how most or all 'bad' people really are.

This is such good acting.
People talk about the "everything I wanted" part in this scene but that's sort of missing the forest by focusing on a tree. Throughout the whole interaction, Homelander is acting like the child. Deeply insecure, asking Ryan why he's not good enough, and basically have a tantrum. This whole scene highlights why Homelander can't be a dad, because he's still just a child at his core. His logic and reasoning are childlike in nature, which is partly due to his unresolved trauma and also because he has never had real responsibility before.

Other than Homelander Ryan Was raised in a Family and got taught the values and Morals of most humans, while Homelander was Isolated abd Tortured for "the sake of becomming the greatest"

this scene reminds me of my father. he's not a physical god, but having a narcissist, emotionally stunted father who only sees you as an extension of his own ego is still terrifying, superpowers or not
