I don't think we'd go on a genocidal rampage over some economic sanctions and a 'blockade' made up of patrol ships. It'd take a bit more than that to push us that far.

It is not the size of the dog in the fight. It is the size of the fight in the dog. Humanity was responding to a attack. We humans are not the bad guy in this. We properly responded to extreme provocation. The aliens did not care that humans would be financially destroyed. Or die suffering. The aliens wanted war the got war. Too bad for them. The aliens beautiful worlds were burned down and their people slaughtered. Do not mess with humans. Go looking for a fight. You shall get your wish.

How is the center of the galactic council a symbol of unity and peace when it effectively tried to blockade a species for no reason other than paranoia?

So, we laugh in the face of intragalactic law, we invade and seize others land. Manifest Destiny 2.0. The picture of the Earth leader and hoard of soldiers is about as authoritarian and dictatorial as it gets. When the galaxy at large tries to rein in the Earth we declare war and attack everyone. Nice view of a future Humanity. Also, our overwhelming power and apparent invincibility in the face of an advanced galactic civilization is strictly third grade stuff.
Wonder if humans could ever rule wisely or will our innate greed and avarice always rule us.
