Really? No one is going to mention that the info on Roanoke was completely wrong? John White was the founding governor of the 2nd Raleigh expidition to the new world that became the village of Roanoke, after they missed their target at Chesapeake bay, not discovered and befriended them. The villagers were his fellow colonists, including his own daughter and her husband, who gave birth to the first English child in the new world, Virginia Dare (hence, Dare County). They were desperately running low on supplies, so White returned to England to restock, only to be caught up in the war with Spain, and be unable to return for 2 years. When he did return, the entire colony had vanished. The only proof that they had ever been there was the partially complete palisade and the word CROATOAN carved into it. The mystery is that no one knows, to this day, where the colonists went. It's proposed that they joined a local native tribe and that their descendants are alive today. It's one of my favorite historical mysteries.
