It’s been a bad week for old Lockheed twins… with one fatal accident taking two lives over the weekend (CA), and another taking place Monday evening as a 1936 twin-engine Lockheed 12A was attempting to land at Seven Lakes Airport (Georgia) shortly before 8 p.m. when it impacted a tree after going off the runway. Three people were confirmed on board and all were air-lifted to area hospitals and each are now reported to be resting and in stable condition. The long-awaited hearing before a Delaware Bankruptcy Judge has taken place and Icon Aircraft, carrying over $170 million dollars in debt, was pretty much sold off for less than ten cents on the dollar, to ‘SG Investment America’ for $15.54M. In a not-too-surprising turn, the next-gen presidential aircraft won’t be taking off under its original schedule, adding about a year to its ultimate delivery timeline. Originally, the program had been slated to deliver the first jet in 2024, a timeline that has slipped time and time again. Now, the US Air Force expects that things will be pushed back another 16 months… All this — and MORE in today’s episode of Airborne-Unlimited!!!

I had a chance to tour that lockheed, a few years ago. It was a beautiful airplane. Extremely small cockpit. Glad to hear that everyone is doing well.
The more I watch aviation video's the more I don't want to fly again. Wish Dan the best, this one appears much worse than the corn field.
Looking at the pic at 1:12, it's hard to imagine the left-seat pilot surviving that.

I'd like to see a video on this one, if one exists. Inexperienced tail-dragger pilots are prone to lower the tail on landing while the plane still has too much groundspeed. This reduces rudder authority and hence directional control, often allowing the plane to weathervane into the crosswind. The reason pilots lower the tail prematurely is usually because they lack the skills to 'fly' it down the runway on the mains with the tail in the air, and because they want to get on the brakes as soon as possible and slow the plane down.
Needless to say, one shouldn't be learning tail dragger skills in a big twin.
If a brake fails, cut the mixtures and the spinning props will provide some slowing. Another nice classic airplane wrecked……

Gryder was demonstrating how the other Lockheed crashed.
Gryder has been critical of NTSB response time. The NTSB won’t be able to beat Gryder’s (DTSB) response time to this one.
The fact that the Chinese bidder was only $250k higher than the 2nd bidder is in no way suspicious. Stop asking questions, comrade.

That is the second GA crash that Gryder has been involved in over the last few years. Maybe he can "Probable Cause" his own accidents…should be interesting to hear his take.
It’s a roll of the dice every time you escape the bonds of earth. Gravity is waiting to pull you down. 30 hours, or 3,000 plus, you never know. It’s risky business.
I. Very thankful that Dan and his passengers are safe. Watching the vid was this a tial wheel malfunction? The landing seems to be fine until the tail stopped flying.
