So true I brought my papers works in had it date stamp and ask for copy..always get a copy of your date stamp and filed😢for your reference talking through with sss dept.especially when u do a walk in
I applied during Covid. It turned into a 3 year fiasco. I finally called the office of the county I was born in and lived in for years and begged the office manager to intervene after an employee at the office stated on a letter said they would be taking my benefits away because they didn't have my documents. Some people care and some don't.

And I have health insurance from my husbands previous job so I don't need Medicare I know to send them a form so they don't auto charge/or give it to me.
I was told if you call in they don't prioritize you. If they tell you on the phone they are going to take care of it they may or may not. Best to go in, wait the 3 hours + to get it taken care of.

YES! THEY LOSE THEM!!! My birth certificate I had to drive over a hundred miles to get and my original marriage license.

I live 70 miles from the nearest SSA office. I send in my papers with certified mail and they MUST sign for it. I never have an issue when I do that.
