Let's Play – Ark of Charon – Full Gameplay (Steam Next Fest)

Let’s Play Ark of Charon. Gameplay.

In this Let’s Play video, I will be playing Ark of Charon (Steam Next Fest) for the first time. Ark of Charon is a mix of Survival City Builder and Tower Defense played sideway views. This game plays similar to “Craft the World” and “Oxygen Not Included”. It also has “The Wandering Village” like vibe to it as well. The migration mechanics also reminds me of “Crab God”. In this game, you control golems (and can spawn new ones later if you get enough soul charges) to gather resources and build a base on the back of a walking Tree. At the start of the game, your Tree rooted and you must prepare your base for the first wave of dark monsters encountered during the Dark Storm traveling from one location to the next. You can’t stay at a location for too long since the storm will cause damages to your base. You’ll need to also secure food for your golems or they will starve and die. The most important part of the game is setting up an offense and defense against the dark monsters that attack you between locations. Resource management and planning is key to survival. It’s very challenging and fun! I enjoyed it a lot and highly recommend checking this game out.

  1. Thanks for the vid I learned a lot. I did defense WAY better than you but you did a few things better than me. All my golems die from starvation but I did not know I could build farms on the trees. But none of my buildings or shooters ever got destroyed maybe 1 or 2 but that's it. Again thanks for the vid now I can fix the starving issue.

  2. From the hour I got to watch so far, you're basically trying to play Craft the World in Ark of Charon (pronounced Ker-On, the Greek ferryman who transported the souls of the dead over the river Styx). You should use ladders (which, apparently, do NOT consume any wood) way more and stop making stairy paths when mining blocks. Also, please note that golems do not fit through one-tile tunnels/ choke points, so always mine in sets of at least two rows tall. Furthermore, they have a greater reach than in craft the world, sometimes even 3-4 rows, so take advantage of that.
As to the priorities that you were complaining about, the button seems to have eluded you so far, although you clicked on the Technology and World Map buttons flanking it. Let's hope you'll use it by the end of the video, while also considering the specifics of each golem. (Oh, you did literally seconds after I wrote this, but still didn't take into consideration what each golem is good at. :)) )
Speaking of World Map, the first time you chose a world to depart to, I've said to myself "Finally, he chose well, even if by luck." That was because the storm takes longer to get to it and you have more time to harvest, mine, and build. Alas, you canceled it and chose the worse option a bit later on. Oh, well… You live and you learn, I guess.
My two cents: move to stone building tech asap (and, as soon as you can afford it, farther down the construction material path) in order to free up wood for other stuff and make it less a focus when mining. Trebuchet should also be a priority. And build defenses. You haven't even clicked that button yet. Also, make a one-tile storage zone (only for its specific ammo) under each offensive structure.

It's true, the game throws a lot at you with very little explanation. Let's hope that, when they launch it, it's going to be with a better guide and with better balance.
    Until then, happy gaming!
