Elizondo was rescued when he he was found being attacked by currawongs on an inner city street. He was brought to a vet practice which doesn’t allow bats on the premises so they put him in a box outside the door for me to collect. I don’t pretend to like it, but it’s what happens there, and it’s not going to change, so I just collect and shut up.
He’s a 15 week juvenile Grey-Headed Flying-Fox, and I’m not really sure of his exact injuries or what happened to him to bring him low to the ground. He has grazes and bruising all over his wings, and although he tried to flap off my hand a couple of times, I suspect he’s not as well as he pretends and only time will tell what’s going on inside him and what injuries aren’t yet visible.
I had real difficulty naming him because to me he looked like a Hector (and I’ve already had a juvenile bat called Hector last year), so I named him Elizondo (Zondo) which really suits him (another stroke of my naming genius) after the actor Hector Elizondo, who can be so expressive with a mere lift of a kindly eyebrow.
Tolga Bat Hospital takes donations for our batties. Tolga is an awesome place in Far North Queensland, which has charity status. By sending donations to them, they get a percentage (and deserve every cent) and they can allocate money to me for batty expenses without it becoming part of my income stream (which makes tax time difficult).

Mention Megabattie or Meg in the PayPal message box and the money will find its way to me.
If no message box appears, please email Jenny to tell her that the money is for me.
IMPORTANT: If you pay through the PayPal Giving Fund, can you please email Jenny with the AMOUNT DONATED and the name under which you have donated, OR just forward along the PP receipt.
The Giving Fund doesn’t charge any fees (so the bats get more money) but PP doesn’t itemise out the amount, they just send a total every month, and we don’t know if the money is for Tolga or for Megabattie.
Here’s Jenny’s email.

C'est vrai qu'il a de beaux yeux. Ils sont tous de merveilleux petits êtres d'ailleurs. Je ne connaissais pas et j'avoue être sous leur charme depuis la première vidéo. Merci de prendre soin d'eux.

I am rooting for battie Hector Elizondo. He has so much spunk I trust he will respond to your loving care and be a survivor. ❤❤❤❤
I love the name Elizondo. Great choice. He's adorable especially wrapped up in the teddy. Hopefully another success story. Looks that way.
He has such a beautiful silver face 🙂
The greys are my favorites, and that one is charming. Heal well, Elizondo.
Great name Meg! I adore Hector Elizondo.. This poor baby had to suffer the indignigty of a bird attack and then to be left in box like he doesn't matter! You matter Hector..and we love you! 😇❤️🖤🦇🖤❤️
Wow, Meg! Those are some wild pants!. Very stylish.
Thats so darling how they hug the stuffed animals. Thank you for taking such good care of these batties ❤❤
Absolutely the cutest bat I've ever seen 💕
He is so darn cute!🫠🥰❤️🦇🇨🇦
Meg what do the bats eat in the winter as there are no flowers or fruit ? You and the batty friends are the best ❤❤❤
Aww little lamb. I hope he is a survivor.
He's got such a cute blonde face! I love him already
What a sweet young boy batty Zondo is. He has the cutest little face!! Praying he does well. 🦇💜🦇💜
295 Grammes? Who's the heaviest bat you ever had, and his/her weight? And her/his wingspan, would you guess? It's so sweet when they flick their tongues, reminds me of dogs who want to give me lickie-kissies! I know, I know; bats are another matter altogether(Laughs!!)!! Zondo; that's a neat name. Ever thought of naming a little feller, Barnabas/"Barney"??
What a handsome, sweet boy Elzondo is. That face! Hope he heals soon. He's going to be a heart stopper for those girls when he gets better and bigger!
Thankyou Meg for everything you do 🙏
He's so little…I wonder if he went out on his own looking for someone/thing and the nasyt bird knocked him out of the air and the just continued the attack? just a thought. He is one of the exceptionally BEAUTIFUL BATTIES🖤🦇🖤🦇🖤🦇 I think his name sound quite elegant, nice job Meg!!!!! and THANK YOU for being the amazing batty Heroine that you are….cheers🥂
Oh, it was so cute to see his sweet little face pop out of that towel after being in the shopping bag! I hope he recovers well. Such a cute little guy. We are all rooting for Elizando. Love his name and such big beautiful eyes 🦇💕🦇💕
What a beautiful little batty
Certainly is a cute bat! Good that he is in your hands for care.
They are always adorable..but he was just a itty bit more adorable!🥰 Hang in there Zondo..there’s a world of bat adventures waiting for you.
Meg I love watching u with the fox bats. I'm sorry I didn't introduce my self. I'm a wildlife rehabbed in Central Illinois. We are not allowed to deal with bats or skunks which is stupid. Always enjoy your videos.
Sincerely Erin roesch
I hope he makes it! He is a cutie!
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩❤❤❤❤❤❤🦇🦇
What a darling face. I’m all caught up in comments, and happy that his X-rays are good.
Meg, can you block the content thief (and report it)?
Great video. ❤
He is gorgeous! He was so observant of everything. However, he seemed a bit surprised that you were discussing how small his boy bits were!
Elizondo seems like a real sweetheart, just like his human counterpart. In your hands, we all know he has the best possible chance.
Oh how beautifully the MOP had protected baby❤
Meg, how would we go about finding what species of bat it is? There's a video on facebook. I think it's a microbat but I've never seen one that looks like it on any of the bat videos I've watched so I'm curious. Poor thing is on the ground with two babies so I hope they called wildlife services.
I love the grabbing feets by the batties, always so cute. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I must acquire those pants!!
O so handsome, it’s so cold and windy here the humidi crib looks very inviting, you lucky boy ❤
Morning Meg it's eirin . I think we only have brown bats where I live . Would love to do what u do with flying fox bats. Honestly I love skunk ive deal with them a lot. Skunk really don't smell. They give u fair warning to get way before they spray. Yes that smell is unbelievable bad. But they r gentle animals.
Poor baby! My neonatal kitten weighed 280g at 2 weeks, so Elizondo at 290g is tiny! Fingers crossed he's able to come back from his injuries.
What a beautiful, tiny angel. Elizondo looks to be a survivor and grateful he was rescued from those birds. You're a saucy angel, Meg.
He is lovely little bat .I hope he does well
Oh, Meg, he is a magnificent young fellow, but first we need to talk about those amazing mismatched leggings! My first thought was "Alice in Wonderland?" but on reflection neither of the two Tweedles wore socks to match their shirts. Then it came to me that the stripes were those of the witch who finished under the house in the Wizard of Oz. Now you'll need some ruby slippers to set them off – at least for the right side. If you do, I shall christen you Meg the Good Witch.
Now back to young Elizondo, a handsome, if a bit holey, Hector manqué. It looks as if his pointy bits move and clutch well, so I've crossed my claws for him. And remember, if you meet another Hector in need of naming, that the Italian version is Ettore, which sounds lovely and musical.
Don't allow bats. Pfft. Should post their names so they can be avoided. Pooey on them. At least they contacted you and put him in a safe spot for you to grab him. How anyone, much less a vet, can look into those liquid black eyes and not fall instantly in love, is beyond me.
Why DO birds hat bats so? They don't really directly compete, do they?
