Four Russian naval vessels – including a nuclear-powered submarine and a frigate – have arrived in Cuba, in what is seen as a show of force amid tensions with the West over the war in Ukraine.

The vessels are anchored at the Havana Bay – some 90 miles (145km) from the US state of Florida.

Russia’s defence ministry says the Admiral Gorshkov frigate and the Kazan submarine are both carriers of advanced weapons, including hypersonic missiles Zircon. They earlier conducted missile drills in the Atlantic.

But Cuba’s foreign ministry says none of the vessels has nuclear arms on board, and their five-day visit does not pose a threat to the region.

US officials say they are closely monitoring the visit.

  49. This is really disingenuous and dishonest on the part of Israel. From a country that have made it national policy (over 30 years) to shoot 12-year old kids throwing rocks, this is rich. This so-called 'war' is simply about 'Land-Grab'. There can't be a two-state solution because the borders would be subject to Sovereignty and Israel, hiding behind "Anti-semitism, would have to give up their plans to annex the 'WHOLE' Mediterranean coastline. (have you seen Israel latest Tourism promos). It is obvious that land-grabbing using the expansion method is long and drawn out. Secondly, Israel would have to shelve their plan, again, to build an alternate to the Suez which would be significantly cheaper if it passes through the Gaza. Moderate Arab states like Qatar… should revisit their MOU with Israel, otherwise they are going to feel something hurting in their backs.
