Ukrainian drones attacked a tugboat and a barge in the Taganrog Bay, Russian TG channels report. According to “Base”, the attack on the tugboat “Engineer Smirnov” and the barge “Section-179” occurred on the evening of June 8.
Reportedly, the attack on the dry-cargo barge “Section-179” of the R-156 project occurred during daylight hours. As a result of the attack, the barge has “minor damage above the waterline.” In addition, the pusher tug “Engineer L.G. Smirnov” of Project 81200, which was towing this barge, received damage from a nearby explosion.
Two crew members also received minor shrapnel wounds.
It is stated that the tug’s performance was not lost, and the captain decided to return to the port of Azov in the Rostov region.
The Crimean Wind channel reports that a tug was delivering a barge along the Volga-Don Canal to the Sea of Azov. Next, it was supposed to be placed near the Kerch Bridge from the Black Sea as a boom.
Taganrog Bay is located in the northeastern part of the Sea of Azov and is its largest bay. Before this, as clarified by Crimean Wind, during the so-called “exercises,” the Black Sea Fleet transferred a number of ships from Novorossiysk to the Sea of Azov.
A Ukrainian military source added to Sky News that on the evening of 8 June, Ukrainian forces launched a “coordinated strike” against a Russian landing ship that had recently moved to the Sea of Azov from the Black Sea.
The vessel became the fifth out of the seven Ropucha-class landing ships that were sunk or “rendered unserviceable” by Ukrainian attacks, the source said.
The source reported that Russian troops use such ships to transfer ammunition and equipment to the occupied city of Mariupol in Donetsk Oblast for further transit to the frontline.
