Nice story although cliché. There is one thing I want to point it out. About how we usually addressing a ship with sexual pronunciation, mostly we go with feminine, for example, USS Dauntless fires HER railgun, or in some cases we go with masculine (the historical sample: KMS Bismarck): USS Retribution might be broken but HIS crew stand strong. We only use 'IT' when we mention the class of the ship: The Dreadnought class battleship is not just a revolutionary piece of work, but IT also inspired navies around the world to follow suit. And since Dreadnought is nothing like the old fashion warships preceding IT thus Dreadnought earn ITS place as a new type of ship. For reference, HMS Dreadnought.
