Are you ready to take command?

Deploy into an authentic, expansive, and meticulously researched Cold War real-time strategy game with WARNO. As the spiritual successor to the acclaimed Wargame series, WARNO is the ultimate next-gen World War III battle simulator.

Two years have passed since Gorbachev’s overthrow in a coup by hardline communists, and now, in the dark summer days of 1989, the Cold War finally turns hot. The armies of NATO and Warsaw Pact have deployed in a divided and tense Germany. Conflict is imminent. The only thing left is to wait for the inevitable Warning Order that will begin it all. War is coming home, commanders…

WARNO – Warning Order – lets you command your customized battlegroup and lead hundreds of Cold War-era units to victory on dynamic, tactical battlefields. Choose between the arsenals of NATO or the Warsaw Pact, and fight across a multitude of solo and online modes against challenging AI or human opponents in massive 10v10 battles. Show your mettle as a strategic commander in the turn-based Army General campaigns depicting a devastating, techno-thrilling World War III in Western Europe.

Take Command of Your Battlegroup

The Cold War-era armed forces of six nations – aligned to NATO or Warsaw Pact – can be led into a hyper-detailed World War III: U.S., West Germany, United Kingdom, and France square off against the Soviet Union and East Germany. From conscripts and main battle tanks to mobile SAM systems, self-propelled artillery, scout helicopters, strike aircraft, and fast interceptors, each WARNO nation has its unique arsenal of vehicles, planes, and soldiers.
More than 1000 different military units are featured, such as the mighty M1A1 Abrams, the British MCV-80 Warrior, French Gazelle scout helicopters, German Leopard tanks, Spetsnaz special forces, SU-25 Frogfoot, the East German KPz T-55AM2 or Mil Mi-24 Hind helicopter gunships. In the Armory, each unit can be inspected and compared in detail.
An array of famous military formations and brigades, each with their unique identity, act as the parent division of your personal battlegroup. Use the units available, choose your economy of forces, and customize your troops in WARNO’s enhanced battlegroup building system.

A New Dimension to War

Experience 5 massive turn-based strategic Army General campaigns centered on the NATO’s CENTAG and Warsaw Pact’s Central Group of Forces area of responsibility in 1989, placing you right in the heart of the war near the infamous Fulda Gap.

  1. Love the Army General concept. I play it in Steel Division 2. Weird how it is executing here.

Try one more video worth to see if the kinks are worked out. The ground you’re currently fighting on for your counteroffensive sucks for the attacker. Let the Soviets come across it and see how you fare.

Love your Gary Grigsbys series, BTW.

  2. Damn man. I feel like right from the getco though you made some bad decisions, like pushing those recon too far in the beginning, but you made up for it later. I almost never disengage in these kind of games unless I know the unit is going to be destroyed with no hope as the game definitely punishes the shit out of you for doing it. Also, you should learn the hot keys, especially the 'back up' key as you expose your amour turning around which you did a few times.

  3. Some piece of advice. On the turn based tactical map you want to Stack your Battalions on Urban Tiles, the give the most defending Bonus, a good Tactic playing NATO Forces, because you need to stop those pushes so they cant open a Gap in your lines and funel trough exposing you to the risk of encircelment.

  4. If you look at the details of the battalions, you'll notice that many have an attached company of infantry/armor. Basically, most brigades or regiments will have at least one battalion of the opposite arm and they can either all be in their own battalion, or very often, split between all other battalions.

So in this case the mech infantry unit you are facing has it's tank battalion split between all of it's infantry battalions. Gameplay wise, i've noticed the AI favors tanks and will end up using most of them before really bringing out the infantry.

On the topic of T80s, indeed, almost all of the GSFG were equipped with T80s, with T62s being the lower end tanks. Apparently in Soviet use T72s were almost entirely for 3rd line units.

  5. Hahaha this is so cool. During the period that this "war" is playing I was 13 years old and lived in Brakel. My father was part of the Belgian Artilleriebataljon 43 or just simply called 43A. Which was a Hawk airdefense unit. You hover over the unit very shortly at 3 mins and 40 seconds. Damn this game is so accurate, I was really suprised.
