In this episode, I talk about a New York Times article I came across that tries to answer the question if Taylor Swift is as popular as some of the biggest artists in the past.

YEAH! Thank you.
The Beatles earned their careers. Taylor Swift won her career in a contest.
Deep state drives division at every level because dealing with the problems they create is their business model.
Yes! You are spot on Mr Beato (btw that beard makes you look so hot! Iâm female, and in Australia, but youâre marriedđĽ˛.)
BEATO is bigger than soon to be gone NYT says youtube stats
I know almost all songs of the Beatles and can sing about 50% of them – and was born after they started making records. I know not one single song of Taylor Swift. Yes, if you play one and tell me: This is from her, I probably know some of her songs – from radio. But she is so far away from the Beatles.. omfg. And my kids listen o the Beatles, to Queen, to Steely Dan, to David Bowie, to AC/DC, to Pink Floyd. Not to Taylor Swift.
Great, informative clip Rick!
One thing I think should not be omitted in this equation is that in the 60s, (Beatles, for instance) music was so important that mid- to low-income classes spent actual hard- earned dollars regularly on buying records (plus going to concerts of course). And that when the cost of living in most Western countries was very high (check it out), plus spending 5 US dollars on an album in 1969 meant spending 43 dollars in 2024…
Compare that with streaming folks.. And The Beatles did actually sell millions of records… So Taylor Swift "bigger"??…
Taylor Swift is relatively unknown here in Italy. Beatles are still huge
One is an overrated popstar from the US. The other is an overrated boyband from the UK… Move on!!
Honestly this is kinda inspiring because I recently made a banger of a bed track but am at a loss for words… maybe i can find a pop star to write some words to it. It deserves to be more than just my ringtone lol
Ask the same question in Europe and Taylor Swift doesn't even come close to the Beatles.đ
It's literally like comparing William Shakespeare with E. L. James. NYT stopped being a serious journal over 10 years ago.
It remains to be seen. "Bigger" is a strange word. In what way? It's like comparing her to Mozart or Beethoven. The Beatles were hugely influential musically. EVERYONE listened to them. EVERYONE EVERYWHERE knew and sang along to every song they wrote. I find her intelligent, and she's brilliantly successful with her young fans, but as an adult, honestly, I can't remember any of her songs, after listening to them.
All makes common sense to me!!! You're 1000% correct!!!! You said it nicely
Love the little sketch.
I think the the answer to the question is… If in 54 years from now (seeing the Beetles broke up 54 years ago) is there going to be a mega artist who is being compared to Taylor Swift? My guess is even in 108 years from now that mega artist would more likely still be compared to the Beetles than to Taylor Swift!
I was getting a bit jaded with your content but youâve just explained why Iâm still a subscriber. Great video, very informative and probably quite brave given her followers Rick
Taylor Swift is a box of Fruit Loops cereal and marketed similarly.
The Beatles are a gourmet dinner that they have prepared.
taylor swift is overrated
How many copy Swift bands are there?
Thank you for this. There really is NO comparison.
Taylor is $bigger. I hope she is fully funded when she finishes her IRA TOUR. Life is more than mu$ic.
Great video đ
Comparing hand made music, containing sweat love & tears, with music of an industrial music machine, only existing to make some guys a bit richer….? Well, that is really hard to decide…
Common sense is not that common. In my youth I was blissfully unaware of lots of music which I later learned to appreciate so in that light I think it's fine if today's youngsters adulate Taylor Swift. If there are lots of older people who in terms of pop swear only by Taylor Swift, however, now that I would find disheartening.
The Beatles' fans were never numerous enough to cause a seismic disturbance at a concert. Talylor Swift's fans are. Just because she and they don't fit in with the old white guy demographic is no reason to get all antsy and ignore the facts.
John said the Beatles were bigger then Jesus Christ , so there you go
Well one thing she has going for her is music is pretty bad overall for what's new and being promoted. So it's pretty easy to stand out from the pack for her. I couldn't even tell you 5 artists in the top 40 today. I knew every song and artist in the 80's and 90's. Things have really gone down hill.
She writes the majority of her music, you are giving credit to people who don't own credit to writing.
I have been a Beatles fan for 60 years and I doubt I could name one Swift song. However, this is about NYT, not Taylor Swift. She just doesnât seem like the kind of person who would compare herself with the Beatles. NYT sells ânewsâ and itâs achieved its goal with this story.
If you add number one hits from their solo careers, that's an additional 9 for McCartney, 3 for Harrison and 2 each for Lennon and Ringo.
Never heard any of her songs and I will never will.
Just listen to "Tomorrow Never Knows"… and feel the difference! Thank you, Rick.
Musician here. I found this review to be a cheap shot to get comments. Taylor might have sold more than the Beatles but it's a completely different world order with the internet sending music around the globe to anyone with a phone. She's stayed insanely popular for two decades, not an easy trick. No need to "bring her down a notch". Check out Taylor Swift's Tiny Desk Concert. Just her, piano and guitar. Maybe not a once in a century talent like Paul McCartney and John Lennon, but she's definitely talented.
The Beatles were amazing and the music still is. But the level of variation from song to song greatly increased when George Martin began producing them.
In her dreams
One of the refreshing things about your channel is that you DON'T behave like other Youtubers and you avoid cheap gimmicks like jump cuts and whatever's happening at 0:02. You earned 4 million subscribers by staying true to yourself. I really, really hope you'll keep doing that.
As a 53 year old from Liverpool, I find the question even being asked offensive. It certainly doesn't need an answer.
And McDonaldâs outsells In and Out. But whose burger do you want to eat?
I'm convinced that the reward system for music is actually backwards.
like, awful music always succeeds, it gets put on top lists of best songs, it gets awards, it gets plastered on all the charts, they get their photoshopped faces put in magazines, they get pop culture cameos and all that, but good music rarely gets any recognition.
so, my theory is that, awards are actually bad, if you get an award, it means you make bad music, and if you don't get any awards, then you made good music… that's the only thing that makes sense here.
Sheâs great. Talented, has the whole package needed for todayâs pop music. That being said, the Beatles outshine everyone by far and I donât know how that can ever change. Itâs set in stone now.
My Phone rang in my pocket while talking to my Doctor. My ringtone is Ticket to Ride. She said "do you have to answer that"? I said no lets just sing along with the ring tone. She then said "Im sorry i dont know that song. However My grandpa will sing it with you ."
