Who is the Woman of Revelation 12? Is she Mary? The Church? Or Israel? The Bible makes the answer clear and it has everything to do with Bible prophecy being fulfilled in our day!

Also, Remember that Jesus tells the church in Revelation 2:27 " And he(the church) will rule them with a ROD OF IRON; as the vessesls of a potter will they be broken to shivers; even as I received of my Father." Then in Revelation 12, where the sign is shown in the heavens verse 5, "And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a ROD OF IRON: and her child was CAUGHT UP unto GOD, and to his throne." In revelation 12:4 The dragon is waiting to devour the child but he was not able to devour the child so he goes after the woman(Israel) with a flood. She is also being protected by God in the wilderness. The new believers( the ones who see the child being caught up) will be persecuted by the dragon.

Christine, perhaps the Revelation 12 passage is both a "sign" and a prophecy. We know that God gives "signs" in the heavens in order to warn of impending judgment, such as blood moons, etc. The language of Revelation 12 (verse 1) states that it is a sign in heaven and not on earth. The September 23, 2017 simultaneous conjunction of Virgo, Leo, the moon, the sun, and Jupiter (the "King" planet), which appeared to dwell in the "womb" of Virgo for 9 months (due to orbital "retrograde"), until being released on 23 September, was without precedent – in the past or in the future. And that has been born out by astronomical software that demonstrated the uniqueness of that event. Further, Revelation 12 states that Satan was kicked out of Heaven. And, as we know, Satan has had access to Heaven – until now – in order to "accuse the saints". And, just one week later, on October 1, as retribution for being kicked out of Heaven, he may very well have taken possession of Stephen Paddock who, without warning or explanation, fired upon thousands of country music event patrons from the Mandalay Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, killing 60 and wounding 800. Unprecedented. Why country western fans? Because a large number of them are Christians. Revenge. So, while your explanation of Revelation 12 is about Israel is likely true, it is also very likely that it was a dual prophecy – a sign that the tribulation is almost upon us and a prophecy about Israel during the tribulation.
The woman of Rev.12 CANNOT be Israel – certainly not the STATE of Israel – because the persecution by the dragon here is spiritual, not secular (Michael against the devil). You can’t call this anti-Semitism, since the dragon is after what the NT describes as ALL Israel: Jewish and true Gentile believers in Christ Jesus (verse 17).
The Israelis – i.e. the whole nation – running to the hills for protection from the dragon is the fulfillment of Jesus’ prediction of Jerusalem’s distress in the end times?!? In light of modern weapons of war a rather bizarre sight to say the least. Besides, the woman flees with the help of a (one) great eagle(plane).
She finds rescue from the dragon in a – surprisingly spiritual – wilderness. (Which tells us s.th. about the serpent; that belongs on a different page, though) The flood which the serpent spews after her also has to be *spiritual*. (God’s army never comes as a flood for that matter).
Even though a great enlightenment of the Jewish people is prophesied in the bible, it does not mean that the whole NATION of Israel will embrace Messiah Jesus as their Savior. Zech. 12:10 speaks of the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem … not the secular Nation of Israel.
The man child in Rev. 5 cannot be Jesus (who was not ‘caught up’ but ascended to heaven), because nothing that John saw in his visions pertained to things of the past from his venue. [On the side line > Daniel chapter 9 is not about the birth of Messiah. Neither will the antichrist sit in a literal temple in Jerusalem. ]
Rather, the woman’s ‘first born’ is just what it says, a spiritual son of hers who will rule nations with an iron scepter like the Lord (Rev. 2:27). Isaiah 66:8 does not say that she delivered a BOY as you claim; but she gives birth to (the rest of) her CHILDREN. She is the spiritual mother of many (Isaiah 49:21, 54:13, 66:8 and others).
Israel is never seen as a mother in the bible; it is always Jerusalem or Zion who brings forth her children.

Israel is the SPIRITUAL wife of God.
Messiah Jesus has but ONE bride and wife: JERUSALEM.
