“REDO! is a dark, lonely, evocative, non-linear action RPG.
Drawing inspiration from the works of Tsutomu Nihei and Lovecraft, REDO! is a game about a girl trying to find what’ remains of a dystopian world overrun by biomachines.”

  1. When I saw this on the Switch eShop and read about its premise, I was intrigued. But as always, I had to see what reviews said. While I enjoy good Metroidvanias, I always hesitate when I see Souls as well. I think on seeing this review, I can confirm this one won't be entirely for me, especially for the lack of the map. In games like this, you kind of need one. But I'm sure there will be people who will enjoy this for what it is, and as always, I appreciate the review. Thanks for taking one for the team, LiteraryRose.

  2. as a souls/sekiro/elden ring master who 100%s these games, some on both xbox and playstation (sekiro) and 2d metroidvania master 100%ing games like ender lilies on both systems, i will not force myself to play crappy games like this, looks and sounds bad
even with a map and waypoint, it just looks crappy to play and look at. at least give better grphics if i cant get a damn map lmao

  3. I can understand why the issues you brought up would decrease your enjoyment of the game and I think they are valid criticisms even if they wouldn't personally bother me. The lack of a map in a metroidvania isn't necessarily a dealbreaker for me because I love some mapless games in the genre like Salt and Sanctuary and the original Metroid. Then again, I also grew up playing 8-bit RPG and adventure games where having to make your own map was something common. However, I can totally get how that could even make the game unplayable for some and I think it's fair enough to have that opinion.

Regarding the thing about saving and healing also respawning enemies, that is pretty standard in souls-like games so that is something I would expect. I don't know if it applies to this game, but in games with a leveling system it can actually make the game easier in a way because it makes it possible to grind as much as you want while staying close to a healing and saving spot.

As for things not being explained in detail to the player in souls-like games, part of that is to make them more difficult but that isn't the only reason. Another reason is so that fan communities build around these games where players share tips and discoveries with each other. So it may be possible to play the game in a way that makes it easier, it's just that the developers want to leave it up to the fans to discover those secrets and share them with each other. Still, it's understandable if you find attempts to experiment with a difficult game to be frustrating rather than rewarding, that approach to gameplay isn't for everyone and it's okay to dislike it.

I wasn't aware of this game and I ended up putting it on my wishlist because it seems like something that I could potentially enjoy. Thanks for the review and for introducing me to the game.

  4. Cool review, as a fan of all soulslikes I have to say this one got me a little frustrated at points, the lack of the map is very noticeable at the start but the more you play and get used to the map layout the less of a problem it is (specially since it isn´t that big of a map), I disagree with the difficulty thing tho, these games are all about knowledge not reflexes, so every death should feel kind of like a lesson to help you in your next try, specially considering this games combat (which as you said encouraged stunning enemies either by attacking them or baiting/dodging them), once you learn the patterns the game is actually pretty easy (which is actually why that mode wasnt implemented, but I would´ve liked the option of a map , maybe in another mode, or something similar to it to be honest)

  5. This girl would've never survived through the NES era. You should suffer consequences for dying and not playing well. Where is the challenge in wanting every game to play in god mode with instant respawns?
