I asked Trell, our resident competitive Yu-Gi-Oh player and master duelist to watch and react to this unofficial 2004 Yu-Gi-Oh guide DVD. It’s the third video in the 3-part “School of Duel” series meant to teach people how to play Yu-Gi-Oh. Let’s see if he can even make it through the entire thing and what he thinks!

We hope you all enjoyed this Yu-Gi-Oh relic DVD just as much as Trell did! Maybe you ever learned something, even in 2024! 😅
I love the idea that these guys had no idea how in 2024 people would still be watching their tutorials and making their DVDs relevant
How many counter traps existed around 2004?
I was the Dark Magician kid back in school, so I had a history of successfully using Diffusion Wave Motion lol.
I dislike easy wins because then it puts the opponent in a bad mood, and when my opponent's in a bad mood, I am too. I enjoy back and forth games because it gets exciting, I lose the ability to make mistakes, and it really feels like a duel rather than throwing my cards at a brick wall. And after all the effort, whether I win or lose, I feel satisfied with the duel, and I can tell my opponent had a good time.
I haven’t laughed this hard in AWHILE 😂 12:58 KILLED me
15:05 oops uh. haha
That dude is the GOAT 24:28
I have never EVEERRR in my life called Attack, Ay Tee Kay.
Hi, I forgot you guys still existed
“It’s not the winning that’s important. It’s the challenge of the game.”
Says an EXODIA player 😂
25:29
"Say goodbye to exodia!!"
25:51
"most annoying kid on the playground"
Yup. Probably-Weevil confirmed.
26:58
Wait. Nevermind.
Heavy Storm came off the OCG banlist and it’s at 1 and I thought it was get off the TCG banlist alas it didn’t so maybe next time
I think they used depletion and burner because MTG is where burn and mill come from
I'm like 90% sure the kid with the bowl cut is Coconut Head from Ned's Declassified (around 24:00). Is that just me or do other people see it too? lol
I learned the game through structure decks they came in 40 so I stuck to 40 but the shiny bit yea I'd stare at the neos from the tins that was so cool looking but I never used that shit lol
Trell is in this episode!!
Trell’s been gone for a while, good to have him back, if only for one video
Trell's look-to-camera when the guy said "forbidden deck" was gold 😂
I like how there are some people who actually take this advice
I had one on VHS but it wasn’t this one, find the other one and do a video on that one too please 🙏
I was thinking the same thing hahah and 15:07
I really like they put the PS1 Yugioh Forbidden Memories battle music in the background, great choice guys. 🙂
Paul "He reminds me of OJ Simpson….."
Please let this have been recorded before he died lmao
A lot of the tips and tricks in these DVDs would be beneficial for somebody for starting out. It just needs a modern updating I would say. A cool idea for you guys to do is to take inspiration from this DVD to make modern versions of this. Of the tips and tricks it's showing because some of the advice is pretty good. I think it would make the game more accessible if more YouTubers would make videos similar to this DVD in a way.
You guys should see about finding the cast members of these instructional videos and challenging them to a duel lol.
"ME!"
You one day, if it's not today."
XD
6:15
The future of Yu Gi Oh right there
How many cards from that video are banned/restricted in today's play standards?
Bruh is that coconut head from ned declassified
22:38 Tbh, the better card for him to tell her about would've been Friendship, with that request. Also pretty funny that we actually have exactly what she's talking about now, the Rikka Fairies as an example, though despite their cute exterior, they're actually able to pack a punch, and hold their own.
back in 2003-2004 ish, the chaos meta. My ratio was about 17~18: 16~17: 6
you didnt need that many monsters because special summon wasnt a thing, and too many monster would clog your hand.
And for the traps, its just the staples, Ring of des, Mirror Force, Call of the haunted, Imperial Order, Torrential (maybe at 2, or waboku/magic cylinder)
spells are mostly the staples too.
1:1:1 is just bad, like, 13,13,13 is bad, even 20:20 doesn't really work.
Yayyy, Paul and I are the same age😂 I've honestly been trying to guess
When the kid said ''I've beat everyone here already'' and Trell went ''you aint beat me!'' hahahaha!
22:50 so funny comming from a madolche player. Archetives like Vernusylphe and melffy looks like konami made them to appeal to girls.
is that coconut head from neds Declassified at 24:15?
Paul's shirt looking like something Chris Chan would wear back in the day
The "weevil hair" was so omnipresent for white boys in the 90s/00s, makes me kind of glad I'm trans so there's no photos of me with it haha
I didn't think another of these existed! Honestly best advice here is about not putting rubber bands around your unsleeved cards haha
The weevil haircut 😂😂
That “do you wish to continue” felt so ominous…
the fact that charlie from charlie's angels is the instructor of the video makes it weird and funny
This is low-key depressing because this is the game I fell in love with, the one yug used to play on the TV show
Is it just me or does he lok like Winnie the pooh?
Wait, the dvd really had a mixed version of Mortal Kombat as the intro?!
The kid with the sword was ready to slice ppl up if he lost a duel lol.
Ok this was fun
