Three cars in the shop inching closer to the #nonamenationals. Here’s what is going on with each of them along with a pretty drastic change to our 72 Dodge that should make it easier to run consistently in the future.

3 pedals separate the men from the boys. Lol
I agree with you I wouldn't want to do it either I wouldn't want to embarrass myself I agree with you
904s are junk
Auto trans in bottle rocket, YES, total thumbs up, best decision ever. Good for you.
I think you should change "bottle rocket" into a street car. It would be far better as a 4 door 118 inch wheelbase 71 and newer B body sedan to be a street cruiser, just like A bodies make better race cars. Then you can drive it and not have to go to the track. 15 inch slot type Road Wheels, or Ralley wheels, white wall tires to match the roof. Hopefully the original bench seats were not tossed and they are a brocade blue fabric.
I still say that A body car that you cut away the body and put holes in the subframe but did not offset the loss of strength with a cage extending to the front of the car is going to fold the first time the front tires leave the ground at the track. But you said it is strong enough…
I think it is SO SO SO much more interesting when you talk about technical history of carbs, point ignitions, fuel pumps, oil pumps oil pans Chrysler "UniBodies" etc. then watching people you have given social proof to, work on cars. Watching people actually work on cars is the most draining and soul sucking thing there is! There must be thousands of channels wherein guys record themselves tightening bolts🥱😴 And I don't care about the Junkyard Jet guys one way or another. I have better things to do than watching neophytes get sweaty in a garage. Mopar Al and Kiwi have their own channels, let them carry their own weight. (Fuck, Kiwi has his own successful shop–he should be paying you for the free press!) Your knowledge of history and Luddite (non) sensibilities are the ENTIRE reason I watch YOUR channel. I can see boring project cars on LITERALLY a thousand different channels but a LIFETIME of knowledge as told by someone as articulate and engaging as you are, is A LOT rarer. IOW: you don't need to "entice" people with project after project, or plugging other channels (of watching grown men tighten bolts), you could find components to talk about and explain. How about a direct comparison of an old style mag vs standard points ignition? (even more in depth than your last points vs. electronic ignition comparison). What kind of differences do high-stall torque converters ACTUALLY make–both on the street AND on the drag strip Setting wheel bearings for less drag? The pluses of ceramic wheel bearings? Using motor oil in the rear end like they sometimes do in Stock & Super Stock–MEASURABLE ET improvements or vaporware? Chassis stiffening–does it make an ET difference? Loose piston to wall vs "standard" clearance–is there an ET difference? The difference between "street" rear gears vs "track"–I don't mean FDR, rather shock loading vs long term durability.
Maybe I am in the minority but project car after project car involving multiple people (who aren't as interesting or as engaging as you) is putting me to sleep. Lets here more of your knowledge and your fantastic ability to tell stories AND keep the viewers attention. Mopar Al may be a nice guy but I watched ONE video on his channel and almost went into a coma. Nothing personal but some guys have it and some don't.
It would be really kool if you came to Sikeston with cars for that race.
I get not wanting to go to the track. Load everything up the night before, and leave early the next day. Drive for an hour or two, get stuck in traffic getting in the place. Finally unload, get in line and wait, and wait. Make a pass, cool down, adjust if needed, get back in line, wait and wait in the direct sun melting everything in its path. Make another pass, cool down get back inline then wait again. Make another pass, if you fail now, load up and go home, if not cool down and get in line. So if you are not lucky you get three hits and go home. Load up and drive back in Sunday night traffic. At home do you need to unload, use the car tomorrow, or return the trailer? So for sixteen hours, you got to make three hits, sit around for hours doing nothing and deal with the expense. So yeah it wasn't exactly fun to have a track day.
Things may be different where you are and your track but that was my experience, and I did this more than a few times. Wednesday night was a bit better but its a Wednesday night and had work the next day
I am glad to see an auto go in, you shift'ems might be fun but have they been competitive at all in the last two or three decades?
Especially with the nitrous, you can make this work much nicer and simpler.
So you say there’s a chance
That's the update from the Global Command Center, I do understand how some things just change in life and you lose interest in some things and gain interest in others. So, now let's move forward to the next issue. How are you going to beat Andy? What's the plan?
D. NASH 5 SPEED. LONG SHIFTER. NO SLUSH BOX. SPEND SOME MONEY F.F.S…..
TORKE bomb. 727.
Hey Uncle Tony you have to come out of drag racing retirement for just this one race against Unity MotorSports. Both you and Andy have to be in the driver's seat on this one!
At 36 I bought my first manual and taught myself to drive it, had a string of ford auto trans issues on low buck used cars and grabbed a miata. Would love to see you get back into drag racing and rip it up with a manual, but when the time is right. I never learned stick because I didn't own the cars I could have potentially damaged, so handing people a car I can understand it being auto. Maybe there's some kind of way to get more people into manual transmissions, some untapped source of cheap cars with manual to resurrect. Maybe even a channel specifically about making them road worthy and making it easy to get new people onboard and competent. It's always had me worried over the years as the manuals vanished I wouldn't have a chance to learn, I was just lucky enough to understand the concepts and roll the dice by buying something I didn't have the experience with and giving myself no choice but to learn so I could commute.
I mean it’s still gunna be a fast car but I my mind the four speed is what makes that car
👍🏾👊🏽
I gotta say iv seen this coming for a while now I am a diehard stick shift guy there is nothing better than running 10.00 N/A with a stick my coyote swap fox is a blast with 3 pedals and I argue with ppl all the time they say it will be faster with a auto and I’m not a believer leaveing the line @ 7500 with wheels up is so much fun also it a dog ring G/Force box it runs hard in the 1/8th with 471 gears it’s run a beat of 6.37@ 106+ but I’ll deff still be watching. Don’t wanna say who I’m rooting for but I will say I’m a diehard ford guy. Good luck to both of you…
dont want to lose the 4k , got it
Hey Tony. What do you think of manual valve body's? I have a 1984 dodge truck with a strong 340 and 727 I was thinking about putting one in. Love the chanel and hope to see you at no name nationals.
Best decision is the 727.
"i El-ka-bonged" the transmishion"……lolololol….your show'n your age Tony…!…..!…thans 4 the up date…
Hey Tony, we need a CAD Drawing of a 19 Inch Harley Wheel… So we can mount the old dry rotted spent tires on bicycles!
I can tell anyone from just watching, the few times you took it to the strip, you were a psychological nightmare. You were ill, yelling at pork chop or whatever his name is. Good to know he's still kicking, at least he was doing good the last time I checked. I could tell you were physically there but mentally gone. No wonder you just want out of there. My dad was like that, he just didn't like to be surrounded by people. My mother drove him mad trying to get him to gatherings and such. He used to be the life of the party and for some reason he was done with it, and that was the way it was…I understand UTG.
Good choice with the 727 in place of the 4speed. Very few can do them justice. As much as you hate the whole drag strip scene it’s what we want to see so someone needs to go and show us what it can do.
If You Need A Driver Let Me Know Please..I Can Cut A Perfect Light And I Do Want To Get On The Track.
Sorry to let you know this but you can't take the blast out that far the biggest kit that I've saw on the market that's no longer made is about a 575 the crankcase is won't allow a stroke increase if there is you might could do it with some xb12 flywheels but I'm not sure if they'll fit
I'd like to get one of those overdrive 4 speeds for my gas mileage focused 1980 cordoba
Just tell him that you get your joy and fulfillment out of building keep doing what you're doing the rest of them can kick rocks while walking down the driveway talking to their self
Bikes, bikes, blah, blah, put the rolling traffic jams back in someone else's garage.
I thought the car Al is driving was supposed to get a racier engine for the NNN??
Us older dudes can shift 4-speeds. I wish i had a Coronet again or any Mopar at this point. You never need to explain your stuff Uncle Tony. Keep doin' watcha doin'.
Why the olschool shit ignition cmon Tony
Another accel coil wtf
Life’s too short to spend time doing something you’re not into, no explanation needed. The heart wants what the heart wants.
I was considering trading my '74 Valiant project car for a running '67 until last week when my little brother rolled up in the most beat up '74 Dart I've ever seen.
Watching him work on his car inspired me so much that I set Friday as the deadline for MOT on my own.
I'll definitely share this channel with him.
Right around 50 I got burnt out as well stopped going to even watch ,. The free time it gives me to enjoy life is worth it. I eat better sleep better and have time to piddle around with other things like my now huge garden . All my drivers are slowly getting attention and getting finally done as intended .
4 door? Have some decency for yourself lol
I hope you do a video of putting one of those 727s together! ALSO can you share some insite into choosing the right stall torque? I know my car needs a higher stall but have no idea what to order.
"UTG Global Command Centre"!
Dude, that's SO frigging funny!
Change the motor too. That 318 motor isn’t enough for that Boss motor
Hey Uncle Tony, on that bolt in sprag, does that require manual valve body? I thought those blocked the governor, or something, or am I thinking of roller bearing modifications? Sorry you are losing the manual trans on bottle rocket, automatic just makes it the same as all the rest. Having a manual on a car like that is very unique.
My Dad used to say : Real race cars have Three Petals ,Monkeys race Automatics! I knw what you mean I can NOT even find parts for My Wide Ratio T-10 from My 428 Cobra Jet!
I've driven manual my whole life. I got a few years ago my first automatic muscle car a hellcat. Drove it couple months, so fn boring I got rid of it. Infact so boring I got rid of all my muscle cars because it ruined fast for me.
You said it a sausage could go down the track.
BottleRocket while built for the track was the otivation for me to acquire my 1-owner 60K mile '72 Coronet 318/904 equipped that mostly sits as it came new. Save for some recent paint work on the trunk lid and both quarters in it's factory Fiesta Green (the rest of the car is it's original paint) and I just added dual exhausts with Flowmaster 40's to allow the 318 to breathe a little better and the car to have a little more sound presence. This now serves as a part-time seasonal daly driver for me and I couldn't be happier!
I certainly can see how you would get your fill of drag racing after all those years.
Not kidding. I had a hard time trying to find a local guy to rebuild my Th350. I was shocked. Cases are hard to find now, parts unavailable, etc. Finally found someone. You do you and your thing Tony. I’m trying to get back into drag racing after 25 years Lol! God bless
