it would be so great if the minor nations had like a limiter on how old ships they can have seen ai minors have torpedo boats in the 1940
I think that one of the most bewildering decisions by the devs of this game was the fact that they took the time to implement the feature that allows ships to be claimed as war reparations but did not take the time to make those ships upgradable, thus not only making that feature completely useless but missing out on a huge opportunity to add a very interesting twist to campaign mode. 🤷‍♂
I think Gasconge's main magazine went pop in that battle. The rest of the ship hardly noticed. Tough ship
1:40: Is that a barrel you're firing or are you just happy to see me?
Whenever I get a storm, which I hate, I just ESC out and reload which gives the same battle with different weather.
"And then I made a Condorcet IV and that sunk into the swamp… and then blew up. But this! This is the Condorcet V and it is the Condorcet that YOU WILL INHERIT!"
France sinks the Greek and Egyptian museums!
I guess minor nations wanted to imitate your museum ships still causing havoc, but they forgot the key step of modernizing them first.
What will your next campaign be
10:30: I'm pretty sure no other ship has topped a BILLION damage done before because I just had to widen my damage done column for Justforkix. Well done.
New Providence Taken!
Le Républicain Provence, Marseille
MCMLIV, 6 May 1954
The Islands of New Providence and the port city of Nassau have surrendered. While exact losses are not available it is believed that the British Army lost twice the numbers as the Fusiliers Marins. The Flotte de La Rochelle is being sent to Newfoundland next.
Mighty Hercules
Le Républicain Provence, Marseille
MCMLIV, 27 March 1954
Two Grands éclaireurs d’escadre, the Neptune class Clemenceau from the Brest Station navale on Northern France and the Alsace, lead of her class from the Nice Station navale in Alpes-Maritimes were on hunting convoys off Rosyth along the Scottish coast when they caught fourteen tasty ### Navires de transport escorted by one prickly Hood class battleship, the Hercules.
Clemenceau and Alsace sighted Hercules and her charges to the east. Though they were both smaller and less well armed, Hercules was no Achilles. If they could close they could bash through Hercules’ weaker armor.
Hercules got the first hit on Alsace, but Clemenceau got a better hit on Hercules. Clemenceau opened her broadside while Alsace slipped behind her and headed for the gap between the convoy and Hercules, keeping the battleship’s attentions. Alsace then turned in towards Hercules, keeping her bow at the battleship, and with the wide angle, forcing Hercules to present her sides to one or the other French ship. Hercules finally got a flooding hit on Alsace but the Grands éclaireur was now so close there was no sense in trying to pull away. She continued to pound on Hercules while Clemenceau swung around and brought her broadside back in line. This finished Hercules who sank with 1961 of her 2482 man crew, leaving 521 survivors.
Clemenceau proceeded to sink the Navires de transport Ferret and Swallow, then force the surrender of the Crown Colony, Flora, Cynthia, Lightning, Tyrant, Foresight, Matchless, Mischief, Noble, Wishart, Calypso, and Sprightly, some 178 thousand gross registered tonnage, with 841 officers and seamen killed and 937 captured.
Alsace took just 92 casualties and Clemenceau took 6.
Victorious?
Le Républicain Provence, Marseille
MCMLIV, 23 March 1954
Two Cuirassés de 1er rang, the Condorcet and the Valeureuse class Gascogne, from the Marseille Base navale principale in Bouches-du-Rhône Department, were on patrol in the North Sea when they encountered the Hood class battleship Victorious escorting ten Mameluke 12.5 thousand ton 113 manned armed Navires de transport.
They spotted funnel smoke to the south-west and closed, to find the Victorious closing on them. Since Victorious had greater range they kept closing. Condorcet got the first hit, actually penetrating Victorious’ main belt at extreme range. Soon both Cuirassés were getting solid hits while Victorious struggled to get replies. Gascogne and Condorcet turned to open their broadsides, and Victorious simply could not take the pounding of seventeen 400mm guns at once. Victorious blew up and took 1961 of her 2482 man crew with her, leaving 521 men for Gascogne to pick up while Condorcet went and sank the Mameluke, Virago, Osiris, Warrior, Dee, Temeraire, Seal, Medusa, Cairo, and Syren, some 125 thousand gross registered tons, with 1014 officers and seamen killed or lost at sea and 116 picked up by Condorcet. Gascogne took 134 casualties.
Battle of Dover
Le Républicain Provence, Marseille
MCMLIV, 20 March 1954
Three Cuirassés de 1er rang, the Gaul class Justfokix and Astronomix, from the La Rochelle Base navale principale in Charente-Maritime Department and the France class Voltaire, from the Marseille Base navale principale in Bouches-du-Rhône Department were patrolling the English Channel and had just passed Dover and about to turn for their next leg when they found a convoy of seven Marathon class 12 thousand ton 103 manned armed Navires de transport sneaking back form Antwerpt with two Hood class battleships as escort, the Prince of Wales and the Mars.
The division was being led by Voltaire with Justfokix and Astronomix following when they sighted the convoy to the north-west. With both the escorts and the French division closing the two sides were soon exchanging fire, but the volume of fire from the French Cuirassés gave them more hits and with the weaker British better ones as well. However it was Voltaire, taking a hit amidships on her starboard side, who was driven out of the battle first.
With Voltaire retiring Justfokix targeted Mars, the lead ship, and Astronomix targeted Prince of Wales. Rather than counter fire Mars and Prince of Wales continued to try to sink Voltaire. This meant they were reduced to using only the chase armament and not engaging with their full broadsides.
Mars was soon battered, flooded fully forward in two compartments and flooding in more, had lost an engine, one of her 58.6mm magazines, and secondary guns. She had nearly 650 casualties and fires across the ship. Prince of Wales was worse off, her fires triggered an explosion of her main powder magazine, popping off her A turret. She had less flooding and all her engines were operational, but she had 500 casualties. But it was Mars that sank first with 2085 of her 2482 man crew.
Prince of Wales was running to the east, leaving the convoy to the north. Astronomix and Justfokix were on her tail, broadly spread out so that Prince of Wales couldn’t present her stern to either enemy until Justfokix turned to close on the convoy. Prince of Wales was now leading a stern chase with Astronomix in her wake. With Prince of Wales suffering from flooding it didn’t take long for Astronomix to catch up and finish Prince of Wales, sinking the ship with 2420 of her 2462 man crew, leaving only 42 survivors to join the 417 from Mars that Astronomix picked up.
Justfokix sank the R, G, Westcott, Shikari, Nessus, Thorn and Marathon, some 84 thousand gross registered tonnage, 648 officers and seamen killed or lost at sea, and 73 picked up.
Voltaire had suffered 116 casualties, JustforKix 12, and Astronomix none.
27:45: My records don't show the Masséna '52 refit changing the caliber of their guns. You did that with some other classes.
Austria Has Declared War!
Le Républicain Provence, Marseille
MCMLV, 9 January 1955
The Österreichisch-Ungarische Monarchie has declared war on the Troisième République Française.
We can’t really determine what their policy demands are, other than “Stop being so much better at Empire Building than us!”
The Empire of Japan seems to have the same feelings. Britain we simply discount. But the United States and the Soviet Union has wisely decided not to be obnoxious.
Emirate of Brunei Liberated!
Le Républicain Provence, Marseille
MCMLIV, 8 December 1954
The Emirate of Brunei on the Island of Borneo has been liberated from British occupation. Losses of the British Army in the campaign were 43 thousand men while the Corps d'Indochine lost only 12.5 thousand.
This is a wonderful follow-up of the taking of Baharin in the Persisan Gulf and of Newfoundland in the North American continent (which I would happily have written about if their events had been recorded).
The islands of Ceylon and Ireland are being liberated now.
