  2. And after the arrival of the Spaniards Jaguar Paw decided to move to Europe where he became a football player known as Ronaldinho.

Lame jokes aside, this movie does not get the recognition it deserves. The value of the production and the sick attetion to details makes it worth watch it. The actors really nailed it. Gibson is a great director.

  3. This movie is very inaccurate about everything it portrays. Aztec people knew exactly when eclipses occurred and waited for them. They also seldom ate human organs, only doing so ritually and performed by high ranking warriors or priests. The spanish people arrived like a 1000 years after it was depicted here and they did so by the mayan side, in Veracruz; actecs were located to the north. The war system was organised, nothing like this. Overall, I think it fails to even tell us what kind of people these were, since they speak nahuatl (aztec tongue) but they blended the mayan and aztec traditions in them. Nothing makes sense here.

  4. The Spanish explorer Hernan Cortes in 1525 contacted the Mayan people that was suppose to be him coming a shore in the area of northern Guatemala. The Spanish were involved in war with the Mayan’s until 1697 when they were finally beaten by the Spanish. This is historical the day of the solar eclipse in the area of Central America was June 21, 1525. A solar eclipse is often referred to as the start of the apocalypse. Which in this case was the beginning of the end for the Mayan Empire.

  5. They really did do sacrifices, the pyramids are still standing in Mexico. They built the stairs on the pyramids at a steep angle so the the bodies would fall all the way to the bottom. The witch girl said "beware the man who brings the jaguar", the black cat that chased him was a jaguar.

  6. Yes there was a lot of slavery, sacrifice and oppression in the past! People was not as educated as we are today! History is something we learn from so we can remember to never let it happen again! Glad you beautiful girls liked the movie, love your reactions.

  7. Can tell you this is a very particular movie and I always asked myself why mel gibson delivered such a film. Well, gibson is a hardcore catholic: and in our current era there is a debate over the abuses and destruction of native cultures in americas. So, avoiding shitstorms, he did this movie showing the worst sides of precolumbians and posing the arrival of christian spaniards as the redemption from these demonic cults. It is clearl if you see the beach scene. The cancel culture / destroying of colombus statues are proofs mel was right. Remeber movies always had an hidden goal about sensibilizing you, by telling a story, about something happening right now.

  8. i never liked that movie. in some way it feels like a pointless story, with a rambo portion. I guess at least its one of the few movies that gives a minimal insight into Aztec culture. and yes i do understand the symbolism of the atztec being the the apocalypse for the tribe and what i assume to be cortez being the apocalypse for the Aztec. but its a bit of a small message for a movie this slow

  9. Imagine what it would have been like to be chased through a rain forest only to get to shore and then be stopped in your tracks alongside the men who are chasing after you and they witness giant wooden ships with men who don’t look like you, wearing weird clothes and armor. It must have been like seeing a ufo and aliens. 👽

  10. People try to romanticize the tribes and nations in Central and South America in their efforts to re-write history so that it only portrays the white man as evil. The reality is people of all locations could and did abuse power and the lives of those they had power over. Mel Gibson made this movie to reveal that.

  11. Yeah mayans were utterrly damn savages. What is funny about this movie is that groups of people always think one certain group is always apparently "so much worse" than the other when arguably that group of people were just as bad in their comitted savagry. History does not lie in this regard. Some ethnicities are responsible for certain acts of savage tendencies and vice versa. No one and i mean NO ONE is excused from its inception. To those that want to hyperfocus on just one perspective are damn fools.

One my of my favorite flicks from rhe man himself Mel Gibson!

  13. By this time mayan elite astronomers could predict eclipse and knew whey would occour and if there was already unrest in the city they used these events and preform sacrifices knowing an eclipse would occour then tell the people they were speaking directly to the gods it was a way of keeping tight grip on control ..
