  1. This sucks. While I do love Pokémon inspired games, they don't fill the same gap that Pokémon fangames do. I love the established lore in Pokémon and are attached to the designs they have.
Wanting to play a monster tamer and wanting to play some Pokémon are two different moods imo.

Take the Mario fangame: Psycho Waluigi. You can remove Waluigi and the Nintendo references, but you lose part of the heart.

  2. I'm sorry ed. But Nintendo needs to lose a serious metric frak ton of money over this.

Nintendo is strictly unique in how litigious they are to the point I can with confidence say they a malicious letigant. And many of their lawsuits in America should be slapped the anti slap laws.

A game company that punishes like how Nintendo does breeds spite. It hurts their next game's sales and boost the number of fan creations. With the hit if Relic castle. Ten more will spawn. Eventually I do see a huge community push to just make as many physical cases as possible which is a financial suicide. But Nintendo has declared war. And people are beyond exhausted.

  3. I guess it'd be safer to not really call them fan games then 🙂 they just become more tamer games for everyone to love. It is a shame because it does stifle a lot of peoples enthusiasm to create. But wholeheartedly agree, no more propping up the small indie company xD. You dont need that branding to make good games.

To all fan game/rom hack makers! Show us your stuff! I know you all have a lot of cool storylines. Come make the genre even bigger! Give us more. 😊

  4. I still plan to eventually finish the two fangames I've released demos for cause I wouldn't feel right leaving them eternally unfinished (Even if I haven't touched them in forever), but I probably won't do any more beyond that. Mostly because I already wanted to focus on original projects, but this stuff definitely doesn't help. Lol.
Also, sidenote, you're not allowed to use Pokémon Essentials for commercial products even if you strip away all the Pokémon stuff. Which, honestly? Fair. It's a set of scripts made with the intent to make free fangames, making a commercial product with it wouldn't exactly be fair to everyone else. At least, I assume that's the reasoning.

  5. It's impossible not to bash on the pokemon company when there a bunch of petty a** Bi*** plan and simple especially cause every pokemon fan game I've seen is given disclaimers that state it's a fan game and not part of the actual Pokemon game franchise.

I do agree that the pokemon fan game creators that make such amazing fan games should create their own games but the Pokemon company shouldn't be so pathetic though

  6. 100% agreeing with this video. Mostly, and the fun part, since there is so much creativity behind many of the fan game creators I would love to see more of, and be able to give them money to do so for their work.

On another, and the sad part, since the pokémon team nor Nintendo truly doesn't deserve the passion. As mentioned in the video, they don't only go after the fan games and mods, but even videos on here covering them. And that is just something that especially Nintendo do in cycles. As a game connected to something is coming out, they try and wipe away anything online connected to a similar thing. For Pokémon Quest, they went after the Minecraft mod(and not the NFT "project") Pixelmon. When Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom came out, they went hard against not only LoZ: Breath of the Wild videos (especially those on mods, of what I saw). but even on videos that Nintendo themselves had sponsored. I might recall it wrong, but I want to say that they also went after Mario stage creator games and videos when mario maker was coming out.

Nintendo treats and fan creators as free marketing that they will throw away whenever they want to focus on a new thing. Anyone who has the artistry to make cool monsters, and the programming know-how to make fun mechanics, don't limit yourself to your thankless inspiration, go all out and use your passion to make something to inspire someone else.

  7. clearly TPC wants these fan game devs to go and make their own IPs so pokemon has more competition… surely, right? cause i hope that's where it goes. just 5-20 bucks for a full game with the complete pokemon gameplay experience and all the fangame quirkyness.

  8. I'll admit I don't think making more fangame devs go into making their own original ip is the route to go. Making a new product of that nature takes a lot of time that someone might not be interested in. The truth is that a lot of fangame devs don't want to make a Monster Tamer game. They want to make a Pokémon game. That means they'd likely end up lose interest if they're forced to make something independent from it. I love Monster Tamer games with all my heart but I think the key is to have both original monster tamers and fangames co-exist.

Because I mean like, you use Pokémon Colosseum Music for your videos, so wouldn't it be okay for fangames to still be a thing too? I dunno, these are just my thoughts. 4:32

  9. honestly, i'm surprised people are still choosing to make fan games instead of just making a new IP all together. I see no point in working for months on a project you know you could get sued for.

It's strange how people say that this take is even ignorant when the alternative only serves the purpose of making your little project a martyr for us in niche internet spaces to complain about in conversations of corporate greed.

  10. Have you heard of MonMea?

It’s a monster taming engine that is admittedly Pokemon-esque but without all the assets. I’ve started making my own monster taming game with that engine and it’s not hard to simply create your own IP with it. If I were you, I’d do a video on that to let these developers know there’s an alternative that they can put their weight behind. Honestly, if the devs wrote scripts and plugins for monmae, everyone would benefit.

  11. They have the right to take them down, but it is undeniable that any harm the fans do to the IP is speculative on par with flat earth conspiracy. Scott Cawthon literally let's his fans do whatever the hell they want (even when it flies against his own politics!) and the fnaf IP is still going strong.

  12. I feel like it is important to acknowledge that "just make an original game" is far easier to SAY than it is to actually do. Pokemon fangames can rely on years and years worth of mechanics, monsters, movepools, assets, and pre-existing synergies, while an original game needs to do all of that pretty much from scratch. As well as an active community to give feedback and ideas. Something like, say, PokeWilds would be a much more massive undertaking as an original game.

  13. Moreover, I do sincerely believe that the reason The Pokemon Company is so extreme with how they deal with fangames is because a common criticism for their games has always been "why should I play this when I could play Unbound/Uranium/Reborn?"

The Pokemon Company is only trying to remove these games specifically because they DON'T want Pokemon fans to have an alternative, therefore allowing the company to continue to produce rushed and unfinished games as the only option for Pokemon fans besides moving on to a better franchise.

  14. I like the idea of the devs making their own IP, but the problem is that it could be lucrative emphasis on could. Some people are too scared to take a risk, especially if they already have a good job, and making a fan game is just a hobby .

  15. The reason I would make a fan-game on an existing IP is because I love that IP and want to see more of it as a game and story.

    Similar to fanart and fanfics.

Like I want to make a Mega Man X fan game that continues the story of the X series as it’s been over 10 years and making a fan game is a great way to do that and learn how to make that kind of game.

And can be used as practice to make your own original work later down the way.

Like Toyotaro with his Dragon Ball fan manga that got Toriyama’s attention and took him in as his apprentice.

Imagine if companies go after all fan stuff? I guess I’m over-exaggerating here, but that would kill a lot of the community and less people might be interested or learn about other properties.

As long as you don’t make a profit off or someone else’s hard work.

Look how Sonic fan games lead to the creation to new IP like Spark the Electric Jester and Freesom Planet. Plus we got very fun and unique games too with Sonic.

I get your stance Ed, but sometimes I want to play an familiar game with characters I already love in a new adventure.

  16. I may not be a fan game developer, but I am somebody who went out of their way to create their own fan made project of a Pokémon region, and then I turned it into my own original story, the Pokémon company realistically, does not give a crap about their fans, nor have they ever gave a crap about the fans, at least when it comes to the modern era for the games.

If more people who created fan games went out of their way to create their own original IP. We will have a lot more people creating brand new stuff to innovate the monster taming genre as a whole, and possibly make Pokémon actually start respecting the fans because the fans are the ones out here actually making games like Pokémon that actually matter and actually let people have fun playing rather than the repetitive bull crap like they've been putting out lately.

  17. What's sad is fan game teams are anywhere between one person and eight people verses Nintendo's hundreds of people and the fans make better concept story lines and even make their own movesets animations and Fakemon

  18. People like the systems Pokemon has, that’s why people want to make Pokémon fan games. Making a new game by definition requires changing the mechanics, and even the games closest to copying Pokémon have changes that make them feel even slightly worse.

Decompilation projects like pokeemerald-expansion make it incredibly easy to make Pokémon romhacks using every aspect of the series to create dream games, with most of the work being done for you. It’s an easy way to learn coding and can act as an entry point towards making new games. Pokémon fan games are incredibly important and healthy for the genre.
