Why African Land Snails Are Dangerous to Humans

Florida, already full of terrifying animals and critters, is now battling massive invasive snails. African land snails were first detected in the state in 2011. They can grow to be the size of a human hand. Just recently, they were detected in Pasco County and the area was quickly quarantined. University of Florida professor and nuisance wildlife expert Dr. William Kern told Inside Edition Digital’s Andrea Swindall why the mollusks can be so harmful.

  1. I bought some succulents at Kroger in northwest Ohio 😂
I plucked a good 40+ of them off and took them home
I tried feeding them what I fed my other land snails (sweet potatoes, kale, cucumbers, grapes, spinach, romaine, calcium in the form of cuttlefish bone) and they all died within a month 🙁
They were VERY small and probably weak.
They had a large terrarium that had never housed any other critter, I misted it and had the proper temperature set.
    I really had high hopes.
And…if you choose to keep them as pets you can. You have to “purge” snails from the wild before you can handle them casually, but once they’re purged it’s standard precautionary measures.

  2. 2:25 Getting rid of worms like it (well I had a relative) means you get put on high doses of Metronidazole. I looked it up and it is supporting chemo, that is why I felt so bad. Extremely toxic so it does kill the bugs. Also carcinogenic.

  3. it's a problem in Trinidad and Tobago. I accidentally stepped on one on work a few hours later, I'm literally looking at 3, probably eating the one I've stepped on whilsttyping this comment. one way I discovered to take them out is a corkfull of bleach. though I'm planning on buying one of those water guns and load it with bleach. anywhere I see them (squirt squirt)

  4. Everybody talking about their experiences, but nobody talking about the reason for this video is basically telling you “Do Not Eat Snails”. How helpful, totally NOT a waste of time 🙂
